Planting and management techniques of lettuce
Lettuce is commonly known as leaf lettuce, also known as goose lettuce, shipping mark lettuce, lettuce, its leaves can be eaten raw, crisp and tender, so it is called lettuce. Lettuce is becoming more and more popular with consumers in the market, so the number of growers is also increasing year by year, so how to manage it when planting? Let's take a look.
1. Scientific watering
After planting slowly, the amount and times of watering should be mastered according to soil moisture and growth conditions, generally every 5-7 days. When the temperature is low, the amount of watering should be small, and the watering frequency should also be reduced. Lettuce needs more water during the peak growing season, so it is necessary to keep the soil moist. After the leaf ball is formed, watering should be controlled to avoid uneven moisture leading to crack ball or rotten heart.
2. Ploughing and weeding
After planting slow seedlings, weeding should be carried out in time. Mid-tillage can loosen the soil, increase soil permeability, avoid soil consolidation and inhibit root growth, promote root development, increase yield, and pay attention to depth so as not to harm the root system. On the other hand, weeds will seize the nutrients and growth space of lettuce, and cause grass shortage in serious cases, resulting in weak growth or death of lettuce, affecting the income of growers. When planting, weed should be removed as soon as you see it. Manual weeding is recommended, and do not use herbicides.
3. Topdressing
It is necessary to apply sufficient base fertilizer before planting, and under the condition of sufficient base fertilizer, there is no need for topdressing in the early growth stage, until the heading stage, nitrogen fertilizer is applied once in watering to promote the rapid growth of leaves. After 15-20 days, the second fertilizer is applied, and the nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer is better. 15-20 kg compound fertilizer is applied per mu. When the leaves begin to curl, the third fertilizer is applied, which is also compound fertilizer, about 20 kg per mu.
4. Diseases and insect pests
The main diseases of lettuce are downy mildew, soft rot, virus, dry rot, top burn, insect pests, leafminer, whitefly, aphids, thrips and so on. The prevention and control of diseases and insect pests should give priority to prevention, strengthen field management, increase the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, and increase the disease resistance of plants. Low toxicity, high efficiency and low residue pesticides should be selected when the disease occurs, but attention should be paid to stopping the use of pesticides in the first half of the harvest.
