Since melon is called melon, the taste must be sweet, but many farmers are reacting that the melon planted is low in sweetness and even a little bitter. Melon sweetness and sugar content is very related, sugar content determines melon sweetness, and some because of some reasons less sugar, so not sweet. So how can I increase the sweetness of melons? Let's take a look at it together with Xiaobian.

1. Reasonable fertilization

Reasonable fertilization can improve the quality of melon, increase sugar content, before planting should be applied enough base fertilizer, each mu can be applied with decomposed farm manure 2000-3000 kg, with 150-200 kg of potassium sulfate compound fertilizer. When melon grows to egg size, topdressing should be applied in time. At this time, swelling melon fertilizer can be applied in combination with watering. Melon is a potassium-loving plant. In the later stage, potassium demand is greater. Increasing potassium fertilizer can improve the variety and yield of melon. In addition, when the plant appears deficiency disease, its growth node is blocked, the yield and quality will decline, then it needs to spray micro-fertilizer to solve the problem. After sitting melon, spray low concentration of calcium chloride and boric acid mixture for foliar spraying, once a week, 2-3 times in succession, supplement the nutrients needed by plants, and spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate foliar fertilizer at the later stage, obviously increase yield and improve quality.

2. Increase the temperature difference between day and night

Fruits need plenty of light and a large temperature difference between day and night when they mature, which is conducive to the accumulation of sugar in the fruit. During the fruit period, ventilation is reduced during the day to increase the room temperature. At 35 degrees Celsius, the sugar synthesis of the fruit is twice as high as that at 10 degrees Celsius, while ventilation is strengthened at night to reduce the room temperature, thus artificially creating an environment with a temperature difference between day and night. If the temperature is too high at night, the leaves breathe heavily and the carbohydrate consumption is large, the sugar will be reduced, resulting in unsweet melon.

3. Control moisture

During the normal growth of melon, water and nitrogen elements should be properly controlled after the fruit enters the mature stage, because excessive nitrogen is absorbed when the fruit matures, unstable intermediate products such as nitrate will accumulate in the plant, resulting in excessive growth of the plant and easy to cause diseases. The same is true for water. When sugar accumulates, watering too much water will cause the fruit to expand rapidly and dilute the sugar, resulting in melon not sweet.

4. Proper harvest

The quality of melon is closely related to the ripening of fruit. It is picked when the fruit is not fully ripe. At this time, the sugar in the fruit has not been completely converted, so the sweetness is too low and the fragrance is insufficient. If the harvest is too late, the stored substances in the fruit are exhausted, too ripe, and the cell tissue becomes soft, resulting in a lack of taste.
