Ophiopogon is native to China and is currently cultivated in southern China, mostly growing in shady and humid slopes, under forests or streams below 2000 meters above sea level. Its tuber is a traditional Chinese medicine, which has the effect of promoting fluid to quench thirst, moistening the lungs and relieving cough, so how to manage it when planting? Let's get to know it.

1. Ploughing and weeding

The plants of Ophiopogon japonicus are short. The field is easy to breed weeds, seize fertility and growth space, will affect the growth of Ophiopogon japonicus, so we must do a good job of weeding in the field, there should be no grass in the field, so as to avoid grass shortage. After 10-15 days after planting, the soil must be ploughed once to promote root growth, and then weeded once a month or every half a month to promote early tillering and multiple roots of seedlings. After October, it is necessary to shallow hoe to loosen the soil in order to avoid harming the roots, but there are fewer weeds in winter, which can be weeded less or not, and it is not suitable to weed after rain and frost, so as not to harden the soil and affect the root system or tuber growth and expansion.

2. Replenish seedlings with inter-seedlings

In the seedling stage, when the seedlings grow to a certain extent, the seedlings should be interspersed in time to maintain the row spacing between the plants, so as to avoid the plants being too dense and lead to canopy in the field. Interseedling can increase field permeability, can be combined with ploughing and weeding, and attention should be paid to getting rid of old, weak, disease and insect seedlings and leaving strong seedlings. After a period of time between seedlings, we should often observe the situation in the field, once the phenomenon of dead seedlings is found, we should replenish the seedlings in time, so as not to cause lack of seedlings and affect the yield.

3. Topdressing

Ophiopogon japonicus has a long growth period and has a great demand for fertility. In addition to applying sufficient base fertilizer before planting, it is also timely topdressing according to the growth of the plant, so that high yield can be obtained. Reasonable topdressing is the key to increase yield of Ophiopogon japonicus. When topdressing, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be reasonably matched, nitrogen fertilizer should be applied, plants are easy to grow, soil is easy to harden, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer is applied, leaves are short and yellow, and they are easy to die. Generally, topdressing 3-4 times a year, the first in July, 2000-2500 kg of human and animal manure and 50 kg of cake fertilizer per mu; the second in August, 2500-3000 kg of manure and 80 kg of cake fertilizer per mu; the third in November, 3000 kg of dung water per mu, 50 kg of cake fertilizer and 50 kg of calcium superphosphate to promote tuber expansion.

4. Irrigation

Ophiopogon likes the humid environment and needs more water when growing. After planting, it is necessary to irrigate the fixed root water in time to keep the soil moist and promote the seedlings to take out new roots early. In the summer, the temperature gradually increases, evaporation increases, at this time to timely watering, replenishing water, in addition, in the drought period should also be timely watering to promote root growth. There is a large amount of precipitation in the rainy season, so the stagnant water in the field should be discharged in time, so as not to induce disease or cause rotting roots and affect the yield.
