Persimmon is a parthenocarpy fruit tree, it itself does not need artificial pollination, but if because of continuous cultivation and management, or in order to improve the fruit setting rate, many fruit farmers will use artificial pollination to improve its fruit setting rate and achieve high yield. So how do persimmons be artificially pollinated? Let's take a look.

1. Collect pollen

The first step of artificial pollination is to collect pollen. Once the male persimmon flowers bloom, they will begin to disperse at noon on the same day, and will dissipate quickly, so the best time to collect pollen is when the bud stage is ripe, and the amount of pollen is the largest. When the petals turn yellow and are about to open, it is most appropriate to collect pollen before noon. The male flower Caixia, remove the petals, take out the anther, lie on smooth paper, place in a better light environment, after a day of drying, you can get pollen. The newly collected pollen is very active, and its germination rate will decrease with the passage of time, so the pollen that is not used temporarily should be kept in the refrigerator.

2. Pollination time and method

The female flower of persimmon has the ability of fertilization after opening for 3-4 days, and pollination is suitable within 1-2 days of the first flowering, and the best time is 7-10:00 in the morning. Pollination can be completed by dipping pollen with a brush or cotton swab on the style of female flowers, but it is more time-consuming and laborious, so in order to save labor, spraying method is generally used. make a solution of pollen collocation, boric acid, brown sugar, pollen suspension and clear water according to a certain proportion, and then spray the female flower with a sprayer, this method is suitable in many areas, and the effect is excellent.

3. Reasonable collocation of pollination trees

Most persimmons do not need artificial pollination, and they bear fruit in a single row, but the flowers of excellent persimmon varieties are single female flowers, and their parthenocarpy strength is weak, so in addition to artificial pollination, they can also be reasonably put into pollination trees. it has obvious effect on improving yield and quality. Taking sweet persimmon as an example, it is suitable to be pollinated with varieties with large amount of pollen, long flowering period and strong affinity with the main varieties. Generally 6-8 plants are matched with one pollinated plant, and the best pollination distance is less than 30 meters.

4. Release the bees

Persimmon is an insect-pollinated plant. Putting bees in the orchard during pollination can increase the fruit setting rate by 15%. At present, pollination insects are better pollinated by horned forehead wall wasp, concave lip wall wasp and bean wasp. Generally, a beehive is placed every 30-40 mu in the orchard before flowering, and the bee species should choose the Chinese honeybee with low temperature tolerance and strong stress resistance.
