"without Subak, Bali would not be Bali." This sentence by Professor Windia, who has studied Subak for many years and promoted it to the World Heritage site, completely summarizes the purpose of our visit to Bali.

The first documented "Subak" system, which appeared in the 10th century AD, is an irrigation system organized by farmers. As Bali is suitable for growing rice all the year round, the Bali people have developed a unique mode of operation on how to coordinate rice farming so that all farmers have access to irrigation water during the planting period. Through regular meetings of large and small Subark, the system has reached a consensus to coordinate the distribution of irrigation water from upstream to downstream in a fair and democratic system, so that the source of water can start with a small irrigation system Subark An on the mountain. To the next Subark B, C, D... All the way down to the coast.

This non-officially binding civil society organization cannot be shaken even if the Bali dynasty changes and even if the green revolution sweeps the world. In 2012, through the cooperation between domestic and foreign scholars and government and non-governmental organizations, the "Subak" system officially became a world cultural heritage.

Lin Shengfeng: if agriculture and traditional beliefs are reintegrated, new forces will be developed.

Subak culture is a thousand-year-old historical mechanism. How can it be compared with Taiwan's experience?. Director Lin Sheng-feng pointed out in an interview that Taiwan's irrigation system is a water conservancy society, unlike Subak's ability to develop irrigation systems, landscapes, and human adhesion. In the development of modern agriculture, Taiwan ignores the relationship between agriculture and traditional beliefs. If it is reintegrated, such as farmers' calendars, solar terms, and ceremonies, a new force of farmers may be developed.

The production process is not easy. It takes ten years to sharpen a sword and is released today.

Starting from 10 p.m. every Tuesday, the documentary series of "Rural Vision" by director Liu Song and Lin Shengfeng will premiere on Public Television, marking the 20th anniversary of the opening of Public Television. For the first time, the "English version" and "4K Chinese version" have been released simultaneously on the "Public TV +" platform. Recalling the experience of novelty, collapse and madness in those 16 days, and comparing it with this hard-earned documentary, I think it's all worth it.
