Matters needing attention in planting Chinese Yam
Chinese yam is sweet and flat, which has the effects of invigorating the spleen and lung, tonifying the stomach and kidney, strengthening the kidney and essence, and prolonging life. It is one of the commonly used medicinal foods in our life. It has a very wide planting area in our country, but there are a lot of points for attention when planting. Let's take a look at it.
1. Soil
Chinese yam is a deep-rooted plant, its underground rhizome can be more than 1 meter long, so choose to plant in areas where the groundwater level is not high, so as not to affect the growth of the rhizome. The soil requirements of the planting land are also very strict, and it is suitable to choose sandy loam soil with loose soil and convenient drainage and irrigation. the looseness of soil is very important for the rhizome elongation and expansion of Chinese yam. On the other hand, the sandy soil has the advantages of loose soil quality, good air permeability and fast temperature increase, which is beneficial to the seedling of Chinese yam in the early stage and the elongation of tuber in the later stage, but if planted in the hard soil, the tuber elongation is hindered, which is easy to cause tuber growth deformity and seriously affect the yield and quality of yam.
2. Seed and seedling treatment
There are three methods of seedling preparation during planting: one is to use the yam head to remove the tuber with a bud, the length of which is 20-40cm to make seeds; the second is to cut the yam into small segments of 8-10cm for seed; the third is to use the residual seeds of Chinese yam. Among the three species, the best is to use surplus seeds to raise seedlings, followed by mountain, but yam head is suitable for growing for 1-2 years, but it is not suitable for more than 3 years. Using yam tuber as seedling is a more advanced cultivation method, which can not only solve the problem of insufficient yam tuber, ensure stable yield, but also prevent variety degradation. The seedlings should be disinfected and sterilized before planting, and after cutting, a layer of plant ash and lime should be stuck at both ends to reduce the possibility of germs invading.
3. Fertilizer and water management
Chinese yam needs a large amount of fertilizer, the general yield per mu is between 2000 and 2500 kg, and the consumption of nitrogen fertilizer, phosphate fertilizer and potash fertilizer is 11 kg, 8 kg and 9 kg respectively. Therefore, we should not only apply sufficient base fertilizer before planting, but also cooperate with chemical fertilizer during growth. we can choose the compound fertilizer which is mainly phosphorus and potassium fertilizer and appropriate amount of nitrogen fertilizer. Chinese yam likes sunny weather and low air humidity. Generally, it only needs to be watered 5-7 times during the whole growth period. Under the condition of sufficient moisture at the bottom, it is not suitable to water more in the seedling stage. Generally, it should be watered once in order to promote the emergence of seedlings and roots. Later watering depends on the watering situation, watering once during drought, and drainage measures should be taken during the rainy season to avoid getting sick or dying seedlings.
4. Ploughing and weeding
Chinese yam in the seedling stage in case of overcast and rainy weather, the soil is very easy to harden, which will affect the emergence of buds, serious seedling failure, so it is necessary to loosen the soil and break the plate in time. After each watering or rainfall, the soil should be ploughed and loosened in time to maintain good soil permeability and speed up the expansion of tubers. In addition, weeds should be weeded in time when planting. Acetochlor can be used for soil closed weeding before emergence to prevent weeds from grabbing nutrients and water.
