Licorice is not only a perennial herb, but also the most widely used medicinal plant, its rhizome can be used as medicine, mainly for heat-clearing and detoxification, expectorant and cough, many proprietary Chinese medicines for cold and cough have its ingredients, and there is a great market demand. In planting and production, it is very important for drug farmers to master correct field management techniques and increase yield. So how to manage it? Let's take a look.

1. Ploughing and weeding

The seedlings of licorice grow slowly and are easily affected by weeds, so it is necessary to weed in time so that the growth of licorice is not hindered. In addition, generally speaking, when licorice grows 3-5 true leaves, it is necessary to carry out intermediate ploughing, when half of the middle ploughing is a shallow hoe 2cm, which is too deep or harms the root system, combined with weeding. When the seedlings grow 10-12 true leaves, they should be ploughed again in combination with weeding, and then they can hoe 5cm or so deeply.

2. The seedlings are fixed

In the first time, weeding in the middle tillage can be carried out according to the conditions in the field, and the seedlings are required to densify seedlings and regenerate seedlings, which can expand the ventilation and light transmission of plants and accelerate the growth of seedlings. When the second intertillage weeding is carried out, the seedlings can be fixed, and the plant spacing should be controlled at 10-15cm. In addition, some diseased seedlings and weak seedlings should be removed and strong seedlings should be planted.

3. Irrigation, drainage and irrigation

Licorice should not be watered too many times, generally watering is mainly focused on the growth prospect, but if it is an arid or semi-arid area, it should be watered frequently before and after emergence to keep the soil moist, so as to avoid the phenomenon of broken ridge and lack of seedlings. The watering of licorice at seedling stage is mainly in the first and second tillage and weeding, and watering once after weeding each time, which can promote the growth and development of seedlings. In the middle stage of growth, it should be watered once combined with fertilization; in the middle and later stage of growth, watering should be controlled to maintain proper drought to facilitate root growth. Before freezing, you can pour frozen water once to facilitate the plant to survive the winter. in addition, if the soil moisture is too high, it may lead to licorice root rot, so it should be drained in time in the rainy season or when there is stagnant water.

4. Reasonable topdressing

Before planting, it can be combined with ploughing and applying sufficient base fertilizer. 5-15 kg of urea can be applied per mu in the first time of weeding and 5-10 kg of urea per mu in the second time of weeding. After turning green in the second year, diammonium phosphate or urea should be applied once per mu to make the plant return to green stage as soon as possible, so as not to cause greedy green late ripening. In addition, it should be noted that nitrogen fertilizer can promote the rapid growth of plants, but licorice roots have nodules, these nodules have the role of nitrogen fixation, if a large amount of nitrogen fertilizer is applied, it will lead to plant nutrition imbalance, lead to excessive growth, crazy growth, affecting yield.
