Classification of potted plants

Classification of potted plants

In the long process of development, Chinese potted landscape has naturally formed many artistic schools. Each genre has its own unique style and processing skills. In addition, China's vast territory, the production of bonsai materials are very rich. Therefore, the types and forms of box scenery in China are also very many. According to historical records, as far back as the Song Dynasty, there were two types of tree bonsai and landscape bonsai. It can be seen that at that time, bonsai trees and landscape bonsai have been distinguished. This is also a classification method in ancient China. With the development of social economy, the art of bonsai is constantly progressing and innovating, and the types of bonsai are also increasing. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the classification of bonsai today. At present, there is no unified classification standard for bonsai in China. According to most people's views, bonsai can be divided into three categories: tree bonsai, landscape bonsai and other types according to factors such as expression form, viewing purpose and selected materials. As far as the present situation is concerned, it should be said that it comprehensively reflects the actual situation of the current bonsai art.

I. Bonsai trees

Bonsai trees are woody plants as the main body, after art and horticultural technology treatment, concentrated performance of nature in the state of graceful woody plants. In the vast majority of cases, it mainly reflects thousand-year-old trees, thousand-year-old giant trees and thousand-year-old strange trees, and there are also a few mature and young trees. Bonsai trees are also from nature, after refining, summarizing, sublimation into three-dimensional Chinese landscape painting in the "tree painting." So potted plants are different from ordinary potted plants. A potted plant is a work of art--a three-dimensional painting; a potted plant is merely gardening. No need for artistic treatment. Japanese potted plants borrow the Chinese character "potted plant" two words, if translated into Chinese should be "potted plants." As for the Chinese meanings of the words "Zai" and "Zhi", there is not much difference. There are also several types of tree bonsai:

1. According to the different woody plant materials selected, it can be divided into the following two types:

(1) pile scene: from the mountain dug tree root pile, after embryo, processing and molding made of a tree bonsai called "pile scene", also known as stump bonsai. Stump is also called pile head.

(2) tree scenery: tree bonsai made of small trees aged 1 to 3 years or slightly older, called "tree scenery". Yang faction, Sichuan faction bonsai have "since childhood cultivation" traditional techniques, requirements from small trees to start modeling. The bonsai made of young trees is referred to as "tree scenery". At present, small potted plants exported are mostly made of small trees. Stump bonsai (pile scene) is a part of tree bonsai, tree bonsai is not necessarily made of stumps, so it is not appropriate to call tree bonsai stump bonsai. On the contrary, pile scenery, tree scenery can be called tree bonsai.

2, according to different viewing purposes, can be divided into the following four types

(1) View leaves: In addition to viewing the artistic modeling of its roots, stems, stems and branches, this kind of tree potted landscape highlights the ornamental value of leaves. Most of the trees have the characteristics of potted plants.

(2) Flower viewing: This kind of bonsai takes flower viewing as the main purpose, and its branch, stem shape and leaf ornamental value are required to rank second. Such as crape myrtle, plum blossom, peach blossom, murraya, etc.

(3) Fruit viewing: This kind of bonsai takes fruit viewing as its main purpose. Such as apple, peach, hawthorn and other production of trees bonsai, ornamental plants in the fire thorn, pomegranate fruit, Elaeagnus, wolfberry, bergamot, kumquat and so on can also be made into a view of fruit bonsai.

(4) Comprehensive: This type of bonsai usually contains two or more ornamental characteristics. For example, tiger thorn, climbing centipede, Chinese holly and ginkgo have two characteristics of viewing leaves and fruits; pomegranate has two characteristics of viewing leaves and flowers; pine has the characteristics of viewing leaves and stems.

II. Landscape Bonsai

This kind of potted landscape painting is a three-dimensional Chinese landscape painting created with stone and plants as the main materials. All natural landscape scenery such as lakes and mountains, misty shadows, strange peaks and empty sky, high gorge flying samples, cliff giant rocks, green mountains and green streams, crane Ting Fu Zhu, etc. are all in the material. Landscape potted landscape is to express the author's thoughts and feelings through the reproduction of natural scenery and express the author's special painting artistic talent. Since landscape bonsai reflects the beautiful landscape scenery in nature, the stone used will change qualitatively once it is distributed into the basin. Before entering the basin, it is clearly "stones","rocks" and the like, and after the basin, it becomes "peaks","cliffs","slopes","rocky rocks" and so on. Therefore, it is not appropriate to call landscape bonsai "water-stone bonsai", because this does not coincide with the formulation of Chinese landscape painting. "Water-stone bonsai" can at most be understood as a combination of water and stone bonsai, but can never mean a combination of water and mountains of three-dimensional Chinese landscape painting, nor can it mean landscape bonsai. According to the different forms and materials of landscape bonsai, it can usually be divided into the following three forms.

1, basin type

Usually called potted landscape. This kind of bonsai is mainly stone, arranged in a shallow basin with water, mainly showing mountains, rivers and the like scenery. The water surface is relatively open, usually accounting for about 1/2 of the basin surface, or a little more. In potted landscape, although the plant materials used are small and few, they should still be regarded as the main content in the picture. Because it endows bonsai with life, it must not be without plants. If there are no plants, it only shows the barren hills without vitality. The picture is dull and does not become beautiful scenery.

2. Dry basin type

Usually called dry potted landscape bonsai. There is no water surface treatment in the basin, it is all land. The basin is mainly paved with soil, erected mountains and stones or planted with trees and flowers. The soil surface is dotted with moss, and the scenery is arranged to form a picture without large-area water surface treatment. Dry-basin landscape bonsai can show the scenery of mountains such as strange peaks and valleys, cliffs, etc. It can also be the same as flood and drought bonsai, showing a smaller range of scenery, trees and plants are relatively tall. Creation is also carried out according to the rules of Chinese landscape painting. Here's the thing to watch out for. Although there is no water surface treatment in the dry basin landscape bonsai, there is water in the picture, because there is water in the mountains, and there is good water in the mountains. Although the streams in the mountains cannot be directly displayed in the picture, they can exist in people's imagination.

3. Flood and drought basin type

Usually called flood and drought bonsai, the performance of a small range of landscape scenery, can be regarded as a landscape bonsai in a certain scenic spot "close-up" lens, such as streams, waterside, Xiaojiang, river scenery. Therefore, the land and water surface are relatively small. Compared with the basin style, the trees are relatively tall, and the water surface is much smaller than the land. In most cases, the land part is mainly paved with soil, the surface is paved with moss, and the water and land interface is formed by stone revetment. It is planted with trees after modeling, usually natural modeling effect is good, there are flowers or mountain-based flood and drought bonsai, composition should be in accordance with the principles of Chinese landscape painting. Bonsai before the completion of creation, can decorate the larger size of the background, such as bridges, towers, pavilions, houses, halls and people, animals and so on. The scenery should be determined according to the theme idea, and the accessories selected are not the main body regardless of the volume size, sometimes it is the "main point". Bonsai in flood and drought are often more poetic.

Miniature bonsai: The volume of this type of bonsai should be minimized, the general height and length should be below 10 cm, some only a few centimeters, can be supported on the palm, the smallest can even be placed on the finger tip, so some people call it "palm bonsai","finger bonsai". Due to the small size of miniature bonsai, so in the composition to strive for simplicity, processing modeling to strive for smooth lines, delicate and meticulous.

As far as the selected pots are concerned, they can usually be divided into the following three types.
