Muskmelon, also known as cantaloupe, cantaloupe, Bailan melon, etc., has many varieties, and summer is the market season of melons. If melons are big and sweet when planting, it is inseparable from growers' fertilization technology. So how to fertilize melons? Let's take a look.

1. Characteristics of fertilizer requirement

Muskmelon needs a large amount of fertilizer, in addition to nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and other elements, it is also very sensitive to trace elements such as calcium and boron. It absorbed the least nutrients in the seedling stage, and the demand for nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer gradually increased after flowering, but the absorption of nitrogen and potassium reached the peak half a month after fruit setting, began to decrease sharply in about one month, and the absorption of calcium and phosphorus reached the peak. It absorbs a large amount of minerals in the flowering and fruiting stage.

2. Apply sufficient base fertilizer

Muskmelon likes fertilizer, if you want to achieve high and stable yield, apply sufficient base fertilizer when planting, generally in combination with soil preparation, apply 2500-3000 kg of rotten farm manure or organic fertilizer per mu as base fertilizer. If there is no farm fertilizer, you can also use inorganic fertilizer or chemical fertilizer instead, apply 200-300 kg of high-quality compound fertilizer per mu, spread it evenly on the soil, and mix well with the soil.

3. topdressing at the right time

Topdressing should be determined according to the nutrient demand of muskmelon at each growth stage. generally, the first fertilizer should be applied when 5-6 true leaves are in the seedling stage, then nitrogen fertilizer is the main fertilizer, with the right amount of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. Generally, 100kg of rotten bean cake or oil dregs or 15kg of compound fertilizer are applied per mu, and it is applied around the root, paying attention to 15-20cm away from the root. Cover soil and water after fertilization to promote the rapid growth of seedlings. And the second fertilization is generally sitting in the fruit, then mainly potash fertilizer, urea, potassium sulfate per mu of 10 kg, or 20 kg of potassium-based compound fertilizer.

4. Extra-root fertilization

In addition to base fertilizer and topdressing, it is also necessary to apply reasonable extra-root fertilizer according to the growth status of the plant, which is mainly spraying foliar fertilizer. Spraying foliar fertilizer in Ziguo ditch once a week can have a good effect of increasing yield and ensuring quality. Foliar fertilizer can be made by mixing low concentration urea and potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution. In addition, foliar fertilizer can prevent plant deficiency, so as not to hinder plant growth and affect yield and quality.
