Castanea henryi is one of the chestnuts, and chestnuts are mainly divided into Castanea henryi and Castanea mollissima. Chinese chestnut is planted in most areas of China, while Castanea henryi is mainly produced in the mountains north of Fujian. Castanea henryi is one of the important woody food crops in China, which can be processed into chestnut powder or canned. At the same time, it also has the effects of tonifying kidney and tonifying qi, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, and can be used for diseases such as lumbar and foot paralysis, internal cold diarrhea and so on. So how to plant Castanea henryi? Here is the editor to introduce its planting method to everyone.

1. Garden site preparation

Castanea henryi has the characteristics of being fond of light, drought tolerance, fear of stagnant water and not resistant to waterlogging. The topography of the planting land is relatively high and flat, and the general planting land will have a certain slope to facilitate drainage. The second is the convenient transportation near the planting land, which is the sunny slope and sandy loam with fertile soil, far away from the polluted area, fertile soil and sufficient light. According to different topography, we dig planting holes scientifically, there is no need for full reclamation, we just need to loosen the soil near the planting holes. The planting hole is one meter long, one meter wide and 80 centimeters high. after digging, sprinkle enough mature farm manure into the planting hole, cover a layer of soil with a thickness of 3 to 4 centimeters, and the depth of the remaining planting hole is about 40 centimeters, then wait for planting.

2. Planting and colonization

The spacing between rows of planting holes is generally about five to six meters, and the spacing between plants is about five meters. Then the treated Castanea henryi seedlings were planted according to the planting hole. The planting time is usually in February in spring, or between October and November in autumn. Place a seedling in each hole, straighten the seedling by hand, backfill with soil, and fully water it, and finally compact the soil with your feet.

3. Shaping and pruning

Castanea henryi is usually trimmed according to the natural happy shape. When the seedlings grow about 30 centimeters after planting, we can start pruning. First of all, we mainly cultivate three main branches, and then remove the excess and diseased branches, and so on when the trunk grows to a certain length, erase the terminal bud, promote the growth of lateral branches, and cultivate the second and third grade trunk. On the other hand, we adopt the principle of pruning dense branches, dead branches, old branches, diseased branches and weak branches for shaping the fruiting chestnut trees.

4. Water and fertilizer management

Water and fertilizer management is mainly divided into two periods, namely, the young tree stage and the fruit tree. After the planting survived, we need to carry out a topdressing, mainly urea, the growing period of young trees need to have sufficient nutrients, so we should carry out topdressing according to the principle of frequently applying thin fertilizer. Nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus ternary compound fertilizer, cake fertilizer, soil fertilizer and calcium fertilizer can be used respectively. In the fruiting period, we need to divide the chestnut tree into four steps to apply fertilizer, namely, sprout fertilizer, pre-anthesis fertilizer, fruit protection fertilizer and fruit picking fertilizer. Nitrogen fertilizer, potassium fertilizer, phosphate fertilizer and compound fertilizer were used in different stages, and the combination of extra-root fertilization and ditching fertilization was used.

5. Disease and pest control

The main diseases of Castanea henryi are chestnut blight and chestnut blight, which can be controlled by antimicrobial agent plus dimethoate emulsion and zinc benzoate respectively. The most common pests are chestnut gall wasp, peach borer, Spodoptera litura and chestnut, which can be controlled by fenvalerate, fenitrothion, dimethoate emulsion and phoxim respectively. Of course, these pests can be controlled with trichlorfon or dichlorvos. The effect is also quite good.

The planting method of Castanea henryi is actually very simple, which is basically the same as that of Castanea mollissima, in which water and fertilizer management, pruning and shaping are all the same, but we should still pay attention to some details when planting. In this way, we can get twice the result with half the effort. That's all for the editor's sharing today. If you have any other questions, please remember to leave a comment for the editor.
