Taoyuan, polluted by heavy metals on the coast, receives the Green Stone Oyster Award

Environmental groups yesterday (5/26) announced the results of a survey of wild oyster pollution on the west coast. Taoyuan's Dayuan Industrial Zone and Yongan Fishing Port were the top two. Among them, the copper content of oyster along the coast of Dayuan Industrial Zone was not inferior to that of foreign countries, and it was the highest in Taiwan's existing test data. It was 1.4 times the highest copper content of Xiangshan green oyster in the past. The environmental group asked the government to control and supervise the discharge of industrial wastewater from the source and control the total amount of discharged water.
The Fisheries Department of the Council of Agriculture responded that wild oysters were not suitable for consumption due to heavy metal pollution, but the monitoring results of cultured oysters were normal,"please feel at ease to eat."
