Castor is an annual or perennial herbaceous plant. Castor is native to Africa and is now cultivated in tropical areas of China. Castor has high medicinal value, such as reducing swelling and removing toxin, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. And castor is also one of the main raw materials of industrial oil in China, which has made a great contribution to the industrial development of our country. So how to cultivate castor? Today, the editor has brought you the cultivation techniques of castor. Let's have a look!

1. Land selection and preparation

Castor is originally a kind of wild plant, which has a wild area all over the world, so it has strong adaptability and low requirements for soil. However, it is necessary to ensure that the planting land is sunny, the climate is warm, and castor is afraid of waterlogging, so avoid planting in potholes with stagnant water. After selecting the site, prepare and turn the soil about a month before sowing, mature the soil, dig the corresponding planting holes and drainage ditches. If planted in wasteland, trapezoidal field planting should be used to improve soil water and fertilizer conservation, and is conducive to management and harvest.

2. Seed selection and budding

Good seeds should be selected before sowing, and castor plants with exuberant growth, many fruits, disease-free and harmless plants can be selected as mother plants during harvest in the previous year. Then pick the fruit, expose it to the sun, dry it and store it in a ventilated place as a seed. Then soak the seeds in warm water of about 45 degrees for a day before sowing, remove them and bury them in moist sand for germination. Generally, the period of germination is about a week, and the seeds can be sown after germination. at this time, the seeds have been fully germinated, and their germination rate will be greatly increased.

3. Sowing seeds at the right time

Generally, the sowing way of castor is transplanting, and the sandy soil with sunny leeward, sufficient water and high soil fertility should be chosen as the seedling bed. Turn the nursery bed deeply and flatten it out. Then sow, pour enough water after sowing, cover the soil to prevent water loss. When the seedlings grow about 3 true leaves, they can be transplanted at the right time. After transplanting, the roots should be watered, and every 4 days after planting, the seedlings should be watered until the seedlings survive. Then we can also use the way of direct seeding, after digging the planting hole, sow about 3 seeds in the planting hole, cover the fine soil, strengthen management and promote germination.

4. Field management

Castor has strong growth ability and great demand for nutrition, so it is necessary to strengthen the application of fertilizer in the process of management. The proportion of nitrogen fertilizer needs to be increased in the early growth stage of castor, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizer is the main fertilizer after flowering. According to the growth of the plant, topdressing in time to provide adequate and comprehensive nutrition for castor. Then appropriate intermediate ploughing and weeding can promote plant growth, improve soil permeability and strengthen castor nutrition absorption. Timely coring and pruning can prevent castor plants from overgrowing, affect flowering and fruiting, and reduce yield.

The above is a brief introduction of castor cultivation technology, castor has a high position in our country. It is widely used in various fields and is a kind of food crop with high economic value. However, castor planting has certain requirements on the environment, so we must understand clearly when planting. That's all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only. I hope it can help you all.
