Calcium fruit, formerly known as European plum, is a new type of fruit discovered and cultivated from wild European plum in China. It is called calcium fruit because of its strong calcium supplement ability. Its fruit trees can not only be cultivated for food and processing, but also can be used to make ornamental bonsai. It has strong drought resistance and can blossom and bear fruit in areas with annual precipitation of 300mm. So how do you grow it? Let's get to know it.

1. Planting time

Bare-root seedlings can be planted in spring and autumn, and spring planting is best before spring buds are inflated. The temperature in the north is generally lower than that in the south, so it is generally in the first ten days of March. If the green seedlings are cultivated in bags or nutrition bowls, they can be planted in spring, summer and autumn except in winter, but it is recommended that the earlier the planting time, the better, and the planting time in autumn should be at least one month before freezing, so that the seedlings can survive the winter safely.

2. Land preparation and planting

Calcium fruit has a strong adaptability to the environment, so it can be planted on flat land or sloping land, on the edge of the field, on the ridge, or in the forest with good ventilation and light transmittance. Before planting, the land is prepared according to the planting topography, for example, the flat land can be used as a bed, and the sloping land can be turned and built according to the depth of the contour line. When planting on flat land, base fertilizer should be applied in combination with mulching, while sloping land should be prepared for surface runoff and water storage. After that, the seedlings should be planted according to the density of 50 × 50cm, and the land should be used reasonably according to the actual situation to increase more income.

3. Field management

After planting, it should be watered once a day to improve the survival rate of saplings. During the growing period of young trees, weeding is reasonable for 3-4 times according to field conditions, leaving no weeds, so as not to affect plant growth. Middle tillage can loosen the soil and promote root growth of young trees. In October every year, each plant should be topdressing 1 kg of mature farm manure in order to survive the winter, and before the spring shoot in April next year, an appropriate amount of nitrogen fertilizer should be applied to promote spring shoot growth and blossom and fruiting. 20 kg urea per mu can be dissolved in water and applied. It is also necessary to top fertilize once in the fruit period in July to improve the yield and quality, and it is appropriate to apply compound fertilizer based on phosphorus and potassium fertilizer.

4. Shaping and pruning

After planting, the seedlings should continue to be properly pruned, dwarf plants, cultivate strong branches, branches with a diameter less than 1mm should be completely cut off, the length of branches should not exceed 30cm, more than it will be cut into 25-30cm. The trunk is generally maintained at about 30-40cm, and the underdeveloped parts with 5-10cm at the top should also be cut off. In addition, in order to obtain higher yield and larger single fruit weight, flower thinning and fruit thinning is also necessary. Generally, only 200-250 fruits are retained per plant, which are evenly distributed on 3-4 basal branches and more than a dozen branches. Fruit thinning is carried out at the beginning of fruit stage.
