If there is no continuous and local communication, it is easy to suffer complaints or objections because the public does not understand it. Whether it is planting trees, planting vegetables, building parks, or creating art in the community, through simple actions, we can maintain communication with the ground and make the movement of public land more smooth.

Since the Wutong Foundation has promoted the establishment of food forests on public land, it has gone through a similar road. From planning to actual construction, it has gone through dozens of months of communication. Before submitting the construction plan to the government, we held relevant seminars for a whole year, traveling all over Taiwan, repeating the words "food forest" to the public and stimulating the public's imagination of the word. We would also like to thank the two founders of Beacon Food Forest for inviting us to Taiwan and personally meeting with the leaders of Shuangbei, Hsinchu and Taichung City to attract the attention of the media and the public, so that the government and the public can gradually understand what the so-called "food forest on public land" will look like. After having a basic understanding, there is a way to talk about actual construction.

To break ground on public land, the objects involved include the land owner, the land management unit, and the surrounding users. In addition to visiting each unit in advance to obtain consent, it is also very important to maintain communication with passers-by at the scene when starting construction. The following four small steps are shared, and you are welcome to refer to them.

Put up a simple sign: write down the name of the project, the sponsor, the website that introduces the project, and leave a contact information. It will tell everyone what is going on in the field. First, it will help people understand the reason for the project. Second, it will be an opportunity to publicize volunteers. Third, if there is any situation on the spot, someone can inform them immediately.

Careful communication can make public land movement more smooth, in addition to this, but also thank everyone who contributes time, labor and food, so that environmental action becomes a relaxed and interesting activity.
