Planting techniques of Magnolia officinalis
Magnolia officinalis, also known as Purple Magnolia and Purple Oil Magnolia, is a plant of Magnolia in Magnoliaceae, which is planted in Sichuan, Hubei and other places in China. Its bark, root bark, flowers and seeds can be used as medicine. It has the effects of resolving dampness and relieving asthma, eliminating phlegm, expelling wind and analgesia. Its seeds can extract oil, the oil content is as high as 35%, and the economic value is significant. So how do you grow it? Let's get to know it.
1. Land selection and preparation
Magnolia officinalis is a kind of plant that likes light and fertilizer, so it should be planted in the sunny shelter zone, which requires loose and fertile soil and good drainage, and can be planted in the mountain yellow-red loam in the south. Seedling land is required to be above 300-800 meters above sea level, with some micro slopes, and sunny slopes with deep soil layer, loose soil, fertile soil and convenient drainage and irrigation should be selected for afforestation. The nursery land is deeply turned over in winter. 3000 kg of soil fertilizer is applied per mu, raked fine and leveled, and holes are opened according to the row spacing of 3 × 3 meters in the afforestation land. The general length, height and width of the hole is 50cm.
2. Methods of reproduction
The propagation methods of Magnolia officinalis include seed propagation, cutting propagation, striping propagation and so on. Generally, excellent mother plants growing for 15-20 years are selected as seeds, and mature ones are collected for planting. After a series of treatments, the seeds and wet sand are mixed and stored at the ratio of 1:3, and then sown in the coming year. Sowing can be spring sowing or autumn sowing, spring sowing is from February to March and autumn sowing is in November. The method of strip sowing is used when sowing. The shallow ditch of 3cm is opened in the seedling field, and the seeds are sowed evenly, covered with soil and grass to keep moisture, with seeds of about 15 kg per mu.
3. Seedling stage management
After the seedling is unearthed, the cover grass should be removed in time, and the grass should be loosened and weeded, and the seedling land should be kept free of weeds. It is recommended to spread a layer of fire and burn the soil after weeding, which can protect the roots of the seedlings and promote their growth. At the same time, we should pay attention to shading and avoiding the sun, so as to avoid strong light burning seedlings, and drainage and waterlogging prevention measures in the main rainy season to avoid stagnant water and rotten roots. When the seedlings grow to five-leaf pericarp, 5 kg of urea can be applied per mu, which can be spread in the rainy season or sprinkle urea with water in sunny weather.
4. Transplanting
It can be transplanted after growing in the seedling site for one year, and it will take two years to transplant in the area with higher altitude. When planting, we choose to have a higher survival rate at the end of autumn, dig out the seedlings with roots, plant them in prepared holes, straighten the seedlings when transplanting, extend the roots, do not bend, compact the soil in layers, and lift it to the half of the hole, so that the roots can be stretched and watered in a layer of loose soil.
