Persimmon tree

The winter pruning of persimmon trees is beneficial to the early fruiting of young trees, the high and stable yield of adult trees, and the renewal and rejuvenation of aging trees. Winter pruning time is generally carried out from defoliation to the sprouting of the following spring, pruning according to the difference of land, tree potential, diseases and insect pests, commonly known as "three looks":

Look at the land: if the cultivated land is fertile and the soil layer is thick, the pruning should be light; for the barren soil layer, the pruning should be heavy.

Look at the tree age: for young persimmon trees, select suitable branches as backbone branches, generally not truncated, and remove nearby weak branches and strong branches in the same direction; in the cultivation and renewal of fruiting branch group, the fruiting mother branch of 1 canopy 3 is cut short in the lower part with lateral buds, which is reserved as a reserve branch to overcome the phenomenon of bearing in large and small years; for aging trees, the big branches should be retracted (leaving stakes in the five-to seven-year-old part) to promote the development of new technology and re-form the crown of branches.

Look at diseases and insects: serious harm to persimmon corner spot, persimmon stalk insects, weak trees, heavy pruning; otherwise, light pruning. Under thin and weak condition, the whole branches, dry and withered branches of diseases and insect pests, and overlapping branches should be removed from the base.
