Cucumber

Many vegetable farmers are worried about why their cucumbers have a bitter taste. In fact, this is caused by a substance called balsam pear. Eating cucumbers containing balsam pear will cause vomiting, diarrhea, spasms and other toxic symptoms. So, how to reduce the bitterness of cucumber in the process of cucumber planting?

First, choose a good cucumber species, do not use bitter cucumbers to grow seedlings. Because bitter cucumbers can be inherited. Therefore, to taste the surface part of the cucumber that will be ripe, choose the cucumber species that have no bitter taste.

Second, fertilization should be reasonable. Cucumber should control the application of nitrogen fertilizer at seedling stage, and then gradually increase the amount of nitrogen fertilizer with the growth of cucumber. At the peak flowering and fruiting stage, the proportion of potassium, nitrogen and phosphorus uptake by cucumber is basically 6:5:2. Cucumber is the most likely to produce bitterness when there is too much nitrogen fertilizer or too little potassium and phosphorus fertilizer.

Third, avoid high or low temperature. When the surface temperature is below 13 ℃, the bitter taste of cucumbers will be more because the low temperature will affect the absorption of nutrients and water. If the high temperature lasts too long, the bitter cucumbers will increase.

Fourth, avoid drought. When the temperature is higher and the soil moisture is less, it is easy to cause physiological drought and bitter melon in cucumber plants.
