Eggplant in the open field soon encountered hot and rainy weather in July and August. Eggplant likes water and is not resistant to waterlogging. This weather threatens the normal growth of eggplant and increases the difficulty of manual management. Therefore, the summer management of eggplant in open field needs to pay special attention to the following three aspects: proper water control, reasonable fertilization, timely prevention and control of diseases and insect pests.

Eggplant management

First, attention should be paid to proper water control.

In terms of cultivation conditions, high-lying and moist sandy loam soil should be selected as far as possible to cultivate eggplant. Lack of water in the soil will slow the growth of eggplant and cause flower and fruit drop. Therefore, when setting the root, it is necessary to pour enough "root water" to make the eggplant root grow rapidly, and in the early stage of harvest, it is necessary to re-irrigate the eggplant to promote the rapid expansion of eggplant and keep the soil moist in the middle growth stage.

Second, attention should be paid to rational fertilization.

Eggplant growth period is long, must re-apply base fertilizer, and timely topdressing. Eggplant is in great demand for nitrogen fertilizer, but nitrogen fertilizer should not be used too much in high temperature season. Too high temperature leads to ammonia volatilization, which may cause ammonia poisoning of eggplant, so trench application can be used. Eggplant leaves are large, it is recommended to carry out foliar topdressing if necessary, potassium dihydrogen phosphate effect is good, but we should pay attention to control the concentration.

Third, attention should be paid to timely prevention and control of diseases and insect pests.

High temperature and humidity in summer, eggplant diseases and insect pests are high, especially Verticillium wilt and cotton blight. Verticillium wilt, commonly known as "half crazy", is one of the main diseases of eggplant in open field. In the treatment of Verticillium wilt, Torubam can be used as rootstock at seedling stage, split grafting and grafting can be used to solve the problem. For eggplant plants that have been diseased, 77% of the available wettable powder can be irrigated with 800-1000 times liquid, once every 10 days for 2 or 3 times in a row. Of course, particularly serious plots should be pulled out of diseased eggplant in time, and then sow sterilized quicklime at the diseased plant.

Because eggplant likes water and is not resistant to waterlogging, it is necessary to do a good job in field drainage to ensure that there is no stagnant water after rain, and to remove diseased leaves and fruits in time to reduce infection, but also to strengthen intertillage, increase the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, and improve plant disease resistance.
