With an area of 1.8 million square kilometers, equivalent to the size of 50 Taiwan, Antarctica is important not only as a habitat for penguins, whales and other wild animals, but also in the balance of global climate and marine ecosystems. Greenpeace gathered more than 2.65 million signatures from around the world to call for the establishment of an "Antarctic Marine Reserve" to the Antarctic Marine Commission, which will be the largest protected area on earth.

The lead singer of the popular rock and roll troupe Radio Commander (Radiohead) and soul Tom York (Thom Yorke) recently partnered with Greenpeace to promote the establishment of the world's largest marine protected area in Antarctica, releasing a newly created single Hands Off The Antarctic, which was released in mid-October at London's famous scenic spot, the Marble Arch (Marble Arch) next to Hyde Park.

The MV image is a three-month exploration study conducted by the Greenpeace research team in Antarctica earlier this year, during which the magnificent polar landscape and wildlife ecology are photographed, recording climate change, pollution and industrial fishing, as well as the impact on wildlife. The film is based on a black-and-white picture, corresponding to Tom York's electronic music, showing a cold and shocking scene.

Tom York: we have to protect this pure land

Earlier this year, the Greenpeace ship Polar Dawn sailed to Antarctica with scientists. Behind the wonderful creatures such as pure and beautiful icebergs, penguins, majestic blue whales, seals and seabirds that regard Antarctica as "home", scientific research results show that global warming is accompanied by the cracking of icebergs, expanding industrial fishing, and seven of the eight sea water samples contain microfibers and other microplastics. All kinds of human factors are seriously threatening this beautiful and important ocean and the creatures that live here.

Tom York said, "there are places on earth that should have preserved their primitive landscapes and ecosystems and should not be destroyed by human factors." this song is an expression that human beings should stop overexploitation. Antarctica is a completely primitive land, and what happens there affects all mankind, which is why we must protect this pure land. "

The co-signature in support of the establishment of Antarctic marine protected areas has the support of more than 2.65 million people around the world. Let us seize this critical moment and join the international community in calling on governments to immediately establish marine protected areas for Antarctica. Other celebrities who took part in the petition for Antarctica included Oscar-winning actor Javier Baden (Javier Bardem), actress Emma Thompson (Emma Thomson), Tandy Newton (Thandie Newton) and South Korea's Yoon Seung-ah.
