Straw mushroom is a saprophytic fungus, which must absorb ready-made nutrients and water from dead plants and soil in order to survive. Therefore, experts warn that we should beware of the loss of straw mushrooms caused by insufficient and improper replenishment of nutrients and water.

Straw mushroom

Prevention of undernutrition: if the fungus bed or haystack is nutritious, the volvariella volvacea grows vigorously, the fruiting body is hypertrophic, the mushroom production period is long, and the yield and quality are good. Therefore, when cultivating straw mushroom, high quality and golden straw should be selected, moldy rice straw should not be used, and some organic matter such as soybean straw and dry manure powder of chicken, duck, pig and cow should be added to the straw pile to supplement nitrogen source, which is beneficial to the high yield and high quality of straw mushroom.

Prevent water deficiency: water is not only an important part of volvariella volvacea, but also all nutrients can be absorbed and utilized by volvariella volvacea only when dissolved in water, and the metabolites of volvariella volvacea can be discharged only when dissolved in water. Insufficient water will hinder the growth of volvariella volvacea and make it dry and die. However, if there is too much water, it will affect the ventilation of the culture material, inhibit the respiratory process, and lead to a large number of death of hyphae and buds. Practice has proved that when the water content in the substrate or rice straw pile is about 65%, it is more suitable for the growth and development of straw mushroom mycelium. The air relative humidity around the mushroom bed is 85-90%, which is the most suitable for the growth of straw mushroom fruiting body.

Anti-direct sunlight: volvariella volvacea spore germination and mycelium growth generally do not need sunlight, but the formation of fruiting body needs sunlight. Diffuse light can promote the formation of fruiting body, make it grow healthily, increase its resistance to diseases and insects, promote the transformation and accumulation of pigment, and deepen the color of fruiting body. However, intense direct light can inhibit the growth of fruiting body. Therefore, the straw mushroom cultivated in the open field must be covered with grass cover, and the site should be a sparse forest shady land with "three points of yang and seven points of shade".

Anti-temperature discomfort: volvariella volvacea is a kind of high-temperature umbrella fungus, the optimum temperature for mycelium growth is about 32 ℃, the most suitable temperature for fruiting body growth is 30 ℃ 32 ℃, and the temperature in the straw pile is 35 ℃. Therefore, in the process of mycelium or fruiting body growth, when the air temperature is below or beyond these temperature ranges, immediate measures should be taken to restore the normal growth temperature.

Air defense airflow passes quickly: sufficient oxygen is an important condition for the normal growth and development of volvariella volvacea. If oxygen is insufficient and carbon dioxide accumulates too much, the mushroom buds often stop growing or die due to respiratory inhibition, but if the ventilation is too large and the water is lost too quickly, it is also disadvantageous to the growth of volvariella volvacea. Therefore, it is best to cultivate volvariella volvacea where the air convection is slow.

Prevention of pH imbalance: acidity is one of the important factors affecting the growth and development of volvariella volvacea. Practice shows that the most suitable PH value for mycelium growth and development of volvariella volvacea is 7.2-7.5, and the most suitable pH for fruiting body formation and growth is about 7.4. the most suitable pH for spore germination is 7.4-7.6, acidity or alkalinity will affect the normal growth and development of volvariella volvacea.
