Five-star money-saving New Taipei Xiufeng Primary School won the title of the strongest school lunch in Taiwan in 2018.

After a two-day fierce competition, the first Taiwan School lunch Competition was won by Yang Ruiping, a dietitian from Xiufeng Primary School in New Taipei City, and Chef Zhu Fengmei, with miscellaneous grain rice, steamed meat with lotus leaf powder, fresh bamboo shoots in golden sand, sweet potato leaves in oyster sauce, tea-fragrant yam chicken soup and grapefruit. Won the title of the strongest school lunch in 2018. At the same time, they also won the recognition of the Food and Education Teaching Excellence Award, becoming the biggest winner of this competition.

Yang Ruiping, a dietitian, said that during her nearly 20 years as a dietitian in the school, she has always worked conscientiously and tried her best to provide the best food for the students. It is a great encouragement for her to be affirmed by the judges this time, proving that as long as she is willing, she can provide five-star delicious nutritious balanced food at a limited cost.

Two representatives of the jury, Associate Professor Liu Qinyu, director of the Taiwan Nutrition Association, and Qiu Chiu-Chan, director of the Ministry of Education and National Education Department, respectively expressed their views on the competition. Associate Professor Liu Qinyu believes that dieticians and cooks have always been behind invisible school lunches, and it is of great significance to affirm their own professional abilities and hard work through competitions. "School lunches have always been an important business of the Ministry of Education. The work is quite heavy, and it is not as simple as the outside world thinks." Section Chief Qiu Qiu-Chan said that he was very moved to see so many excellent dietitians and cooks stick to their posts and cook such rich and varied dishes for children in the past day or two.

Since children are the main suppliers of school lunches, this competition specially selected two senior judges of elementary schools through an essay competition to select their best school lunches. Qingshui Primary School from Taichung City and Yuanyi Food from Taoyuan City won the first Children's Award respectively. In addition, Japanese schools all over the country gave Mr. Liancheng, the founder of Shijiazi Garden, and awarded the international awards to Taichung City, British Middle School and Tainan City's New South Primary School. He said that after this competition, he was not only impressed by Taiwan's school lunches, but also prompted him to come up with new ideas, and he will certainly maintain close exchanges with Taiwan in the future.
