In 1952, Wuhan University Agricultural College, 1953 East Lake Scenic Area have held small-scale chrysanthemum exhibition;
In 1956, Wuhan organized the first city-wide chrysanthemum exhibition, which was exhibited by 6 units: East Lake Scenic Area, Zhongshan Park, Jiefang Park, Shouyi Park, Municipal Cultural Bureau and Jianghan District, with 476 varieties and more than 30,000 pots on display.
In 1957, in order to present gifts to the opening of the Yangtze River Bridge, the garden department adopted technology "ripening" to make 350 pots of chrysanthemums open ahead of schedule on National Day.
After being interrupted during the Cultural Revolution, Wuhan City Chrysanthemum Exhibition was held again in Zhongshan Park in 1981, and moved to various parks in the street for six times. Liberation Park, Qiaokou Park, Guqin Terrace and other places are important exhibition areas.
