Taiwan Railway Hualien New Station officially opens acting County Mayor Tsai Bi-Chung welcomes tourists to visit
The much-anticipated new station in Hualien was officially opened yesterday (3). Acting county magistrate Tsai Pik-Chung, Minister of Communications Wu Hongmou, Taiwan Railway Director Lu Jieshen, legislators Hsiao Mei-chin and Xu Huan-Wei, CEO of the Eastern Joint Service Center of the Executive Yuan Xu Chuansheng, Hualien Mayor Wei Jiaxian and other dignitaries attended the opening ceremony. President Tsai ing-wen also paid a special visit after the ceremony, and the hall on the third floor of the new station was filled with tourists and villagers.
Lu Jieshen, director of the Taiwan Railway, said that there are an average of nearly 30,000 people entering and leaving the station at Hualien Station every day, with a maximum of 50,000 people on consecutive holidays, second only to Taipei Station in revenue. In order to enhance the overall service efficiency of the Huadong Line, the Taiwan Railway plans to improve 27 stations and surrounding ancillary facilities along the line between Xincheng Station and Taitung Station. Hualien New Station is the last piece of jigsaw puzzle and the first phase is officially opened.
Cai Bizhong, the acting county magistrate, said that with the joint efforts of the central and local governments, Hualien Station has become the fourth special-class station after Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung. After the opening of the new Hualien station, the waiting space has been expanded by 6.5 times. Six new elevators and escalators will be installed from 6 to 13, which will be able to meet the daily travel needs of 50,000 passengers, and a new free passage connecting the east and west stations will be built. Overlooking and appreciating the entry and exit of trains and the take-off and landing of planes, the scene attracted many people to stop to take pictures, becoming a new popular sign-in point in Hualien. In addition, the ground of the new station is equipped with a large-scale public art "Wanlan Whale," and the hall is equipped with a painting by artist Lin Hsin-Yueh, "Tianyou Hualien", so that tourists from home and abroad can feel the beauty of Huadong's unique cultural landscape as soon as they arrive in Hualien.
