Fishermen's Day is approaching, and the Fisheries Department praises 12 national model fishermen. Director of Fisheries Huang Hongyan said at a press conference on the 28th that fishermen's Day is a very important day and model fishermen are expected to lead the fishing industry in a sustainable direction, including friendly environmental fishing and aquaculture, conservation of marine habitats, implementation of food safety and hygiene management, and so on. The selection of fishermen's festival in Suao is also of special significance. This year marks the 95th anniversary of the founding of Suao fishing Port, which is an important offshore base, as well as the hometown of mackerel and an important fish producing area in Taiwan.

The 12 national model fishermen selected this year include Lin Xinde of Su'ao District, Chen Ruilong of Donggang District, Li Shengquan of Changhua District, Lin Weizhi of Xingang District, Changquan of Yangtze River of Keelung District, Hong Wenjiao of Ryukyu District, Xie Zhongming of Toucheng District, Wu Sanxian of Mituo District, Chen Qihong of the Republic of China Fisheries Development Association, Jian Wenlong of Jinshan District, Wu Yawen of Nancheng District, and Yang Lizhu of Penghu District.

EU yellow card inspection starts again, Fisheries Department: Fukui No. 11 as a case

If the fishing industry is to move towards sustainable development, the government must thoroughly enforce the law. With regard to the previous Taiwan fishing boat Fuku 11 accused of illegal fishing and exploitation of fishermen, Huang Hongyan explained that the fishing boat was supposed to continue its operation in South Africa, but after being persuaded by the Fisheries Department to finish its operation and return to Taiwan, the Fisheries Department also carried out cabin closure inspection. A few days ago, the Fisheries Department also indicated that the fish species unloaded were mainly long-fin tuna and a small number of bigeye tuna, yellowfin tuna and oil directors. it was preliminarily determined that there were no violations involving false returns and exceeding the quota. As to whether or not shark fishing is prohibited or finning and abandonment is involved, further investigation is needed.

With regard to the exploitation of fishermen, Huang said that there is still an ongoing investigation into whether the fishermen have been unfairly treated, and it is not convenient for them to disclose to the public. "the investigation must be very careful. This involves the reputation of fishing vessels and should not be hasty." The investigation will be completed as soon as possible and will be announced to the outside world as soon as the investigation is completed.

The Fukui 11 case has attracted attention from the outside world, will it affect the withdrawal of the yellow card by the European Union? In this regard, Huang Hongyan believes, "it will not affect the European Union (the withdrawal of yellow cards). This is an individual case." He stressed that if fishing vessels violate operational regulations or violate human rights, there are relevant laws that can be appropriately punished, and the European Union does not require that after the enactment of laws, no one can break the rules. "then why should this law be enacted?" What the EU emphasizes is that after the enactment of the law, all fishing vessel operators will be subject to sanctions if they violate the law. " Fukui No. 11 and the removal of the yellow card are the same thing.

Taiwan's Fukui 11 is a hell ship! The EJF Foundation investigated the abuse of fishermen to catch IUU illegally, calling on Taiwan to face it positively.
