In December 2017, the entry for "Buddhist youth" was swept through the moments and became popular on the Internet. As a cultural phenomenon, Buddhism has become an ecological state and attitude towards life as it sees through the world and lives according to its own way of life. Today, instead of talking about Buddhist youth, let's talk about the plants in the Buddhist system.

According to Buddhist rules, all the places where Buddha serves Sakyamuni must be planted in Buddhism-related plants-five trees and six flowers. The five trees refer to banyan, high banyan, shellfish palm, betel nut and sugar brown, while the six flowers refer to lotus, Burmese sweet-scented osmanthus, turmeric, egg flower, Wenshulan and Diyong golden lotus. Today we are mainly going to learn about the five trees of the Buddhist system.

1. Banyan tree

Any of various large trees of the genus banyan that are attached to other trees when young. Leaves leathery, triangular-ovate, basal veins Ternate; petiole slender, figs globose to oblate; style slender, stigma narrow; florescence March-April, fruit May-June.

The original name of the banyan tree in Sanskrit is "Bibo Luo tree". It was named because Sakyamuni enlightened under the banyan tree, and "Bodhi" means "enlightenment". To this day, the Hindu Shatta often think under the banyan tree. Banyan trees are widely planted in jungle temples in India, Sri Lanka and Myanmar, and India is designated as a national tree.

2. Gao Rong

Mulberry tree Gaorong, also known as alpine banyan, is distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, southern Yunnan, Vietnam, Malaysia, India, Ceylon, and numerous mountain forests. The aerial root and pillar root of Gaorong are very strong, so it will not only kill the host plant, but also easily form a single tree forest. Although the fruit of Gaorong is small, it bears a lot of fruit. when the fruit is ripe, countless small fruits on the branches are like red corals, attracting a variety of birds and animals to compete for food.

The long historical poem "Li Jiao" of the Dai nationality in Xishuangbanna says that it is "with gods". During the flowering season, many kinds of flowers are often bloomed on the same tree, thus forming colorful flowers.

3. Shell leaf brown

Palm is an evergreen tree of the family Palmae, native to tropical Asia. It is usually about 20 meters high, tall and majestic, with a straight, round trunk with no branches, a crown like a giant umbrella and leaves scattered like palms, giving people a sense of solemnity and vitality. It is an excellent tree species for greening the environment in the tropics, native to Myanmar, India and Sri Lanka, for viewing.

The famous Bei Ye Sutra in Buddhism is made of the leaves of shell palm. Some people think that shell leaf palm is a kind of marker tree of geography and national culture. as long as it is tropical, where there is Buddhism, there is shell leaf palm. The Dai people in Xishuangbanna regard Beiye as a symbol of their cultural development, and are often proud of it, even deifying it, believing that only a sincere Buddha can grow it.

4. Betel nut

Evergreen trees of the genus areca in palms, with erect stems, arboreal stems, more than 10 meters high, up to 30 meters high, with obvious annular leaf scars, monoecious; inflorescences much branched, ovary oblong; fruit oblong or ovoid; seeds ovate, flowering and fruiting from March to April. The appearance of the betel nut tree is similar to that of the coconut tree, tall and straight, branches and leaves facing the wind, elegant and lovely.

The fruit of betel nut is edible, and people in some places in the south have the habit of chewing betel nut. Betel nut is also a kind of medicine, which has the functions of stopping diarrhea and treating dysentery, killing insects to accumulate, etc., nicknamed "Xianmian Dan".

5. Sugar brown

Evergreen trees; leaves palmately divided, lobes mostly apically lobed 2-lobed; flowers unisexual, dioecious, much branched fleshy spikes; spices conspicuous. The fruit is prolific, with dozens gathered around the neck of the tree; it is as big as a ball, golden and bright, and can be used for interior decoration. Sugar palm, also known as sugar coconut, people like to use a knife to carve the inflorescence, and then the inflorescence juice will flow along the knife to the bucket, the juice is very sweet, like granulated sugar, an inflorescence can produce 4 small buckets of sweet juice.

The pinnate leaves of sugar brown are perennially oil-green, huge and dense, like a natural canopy, blocking the hot tropical sun, and like big green umbrellas, giving people a cool shade that can be planted in the courtyard.
