Olive is a kind of tropical fruit tree, its nutritional value and medicinal value are very considerable, at the same time, its scope of use is very broad, edible, medicinal, oil and so on, and the olive branch also has a great moral, is a relatively auspicious fruit tree planting, so how should olives be planted? Let's follow the editor to learn how to grow olives.

1. Garden site selection

Olive is a kind of temperature-loving plant, the annual average temperature suitable for its growth should reach at least 20 degrees and above, the yield of olives will be better under this condition, of course, it is also a more hardy plant, it can survive in the environment of minus three degrees, but the survival time is not very long, it has strong adaptability to soil, as long as it is not too sticky soil can be planted. But the best planting land is sand, and the planting land should be relatively flat.

2. Methods of reproduction

There are two main methods of olive propagation, namely seed propagation and grafting propagation. Grafting is best carried out in February and March every year, which means that the survival rate of grafting is higher, and wound healing should be done well when grafting, otherwise the rate of healing will be very slow, thus affecting the growth rate of the plant. Planting and reproduction requires soaking the seeds in warm water for half a day, and then sowing them.

3. Reasonable close planting

Olive is a kind of light-loving plant, which needs sufficient light in its whole growth process, and at the same time, in order to facilitate field operation in the later stage, it is necessary to plant olives at a reasonable density. Usually, it is best to plant two meters per row, and each plant is about 1.5 meters apart. An average of 20 to 160 olive trees can be planted in an acre.

4. Fertilizer and water management

The fertilizer and water management of olive trees is mainly carried out according to the growth, growth age, fruit and soil fertility of olive trees, but under normal circumstances, it is necessary to apply fertilizer at least three times a year. The first time is about 10 to 15 days before the olive tree blossoms, mainly high-efficiency potash fertilizer and farm manure, and the second time is usually when the fruit grows after setting fruit. Mainly potash fertilizer, and combined with the use of an appropriate amount of fruit protectant, the last time is after fruit picking, the maintenance and management of fruit trees, mainly farm manure, organic fertilizer and appropriate amount of micro-fertilizer. Rain Water in more seasons to timely drainage, but in the olive branch and leaf growth and strong fruit period need a lot of water, so need an appropriate amount of water supply.

5. Shaping and pruning

The olive tree grows relatively fast, and its branches and leaves are also relatively luxuriant, which will affect the fruit yield of the olive tree, so we should prune the branches and leaves scientifically in the process of its growth, usually pruning the branches and leaves at the top of the olive tree. This can make the olive tree grow horizontally as much as possible, and at the same time, it is necessary to trim the main medicine branches and branches of the olive tree to form a crown with distinct primary and secondary. There is to be olive branches and leaves more luxuriant place for pruning, to maintain a certain degree of permeability.

6. Pest control

The resistance of olive trees is stronger than that of other fruit trees, but anthracnose, gum disease and tree gall disease occur occasionally. We can use Bordeaux solution, carbendazim and methyl topiramate to control these diseases. The most common pests are lice pests, scale pests and longicorn beetles, usually we use trichlorfon or Lesbon for control.
