Have Huilan grown in vain all these years? It's a pity that I don't understand the difference between Cymbidium and Cymbidium.

Huilan, commonly known as Cymbidium and Cymbidium, is one of the treasures of orchids. Most friends who like to raise orchids will raise one or two pots of Cymbidium. Recently, some orchids reported that it was difficult to raise cymbidium and did not blossom for two years, while the spring orchid cultivated at the same time blossomed well every year. Why? After a detailed exchange with Lanyou, the farmer learned that he had some minor problems with planting tubes in Chunlan and Huilan, which were often committed by novice Lan you.

The growth habits of Cymbidium and Cymbidium are different, which can be seen from the wild orchids. Most of the wild cymbidium grows in the upper half of the hillside, and some grow on the top of the mountain, where the soil is relatively dry with good ventilation. On the other hand, the wild Cymbidium of the same mountain grows on the hillside, near the edge of the stream and gully, the small environment is relatively humid and the light is weaker.

The florescence of Cymbidium is usually two months later than that of Cymbidium (based on orchids from the same orchid-producing area). Farmers often see on the mountain that the flowers of Cymbidium have borne seeds for a long time, and Cymbidium has just pulled out its arrows. Therefore, they are also out of step in the development of new seedlings after flowering, including the time difference in sprouting flower buds after autumn. If they are managed together, Cymbidium needs to control water to promote flower buds, while Cymbidium needs to moisten and grow new seedlings. At the same time, water control will affect the growth of new seedlings of Cymbidium in that year, so as to affect the flowering in the coming year.

It is common for Cymbidium plants to have tall and well-developed roots, which are two or three times larger than Chunlan, so Cymbidium needs more nutrients than Chunlan. If the same flowerpots, plant materials, water and fertilizer, then Cymbidium will not get enough nutrients, resulting in obvious plant degradation and weakness, which is also one of the reasons affecting flowering. Therefore, when a good farmer suggests planting Cymbidium, we need to consider whether the nutrients of the plant material are adequate. Can fertilization satisfy its growth at ordinary times? Is the orchid pot enough for the root growth of Cymbidium?

Cymbidium needs more light than Chunlan, so the farmer filmed a video on the top of the mountain. The wild cymbidium plant grew vigorously even though it was exposed to the sun in summer. Cymbidium is more resistant to low temperature than spring orchid, and prefers low temperature, which can be seen from the location of the hillside where they grow. The extremely low temperature in winter in the farmer's hometown is about 8 degrees below zero, and in 2017 it reached 10 degrees below zero for more than 10 days. When spring comes, the wild cymbidium is still open at the top of the mountain. You should know that in winter in the mountains, the temperature at the top of the mountain and on the hillside varies from 5 to 6 degrees.

Therefore, when Chunlan finished vernalization and moved into the room to blossom, Huilan could not go into the house together. The good photographer has done experiments that as long as the orchid pot soil does not form a whole popsicle, the cymbidium will not freeze to death. So the good farmer advised Lanyou to pay close attention to the weather forecast in winter and not to move Huilan into the house unless it was extremely cold.

Cymbidium can only blossom well after enough vernalization. Of course, this is for the local wild orchids where good farmers live, and other species need more communication among orchid friends.
