The elongation of leaf sheath cells in pseudostem of Allium fistulosum requires dark and humid environment, and is based on the input and accumulation of nutrients. Therefore, soil cultivation by stages is an important measure to prevent lodging, soften leaf sheath, prolong stalk length and improve stalk yield and quality. Cultivation should be carried out after entering the vigorous growth period and cooling the climate and ground temperature. From the beginning of autumn to before harvest, generally cultivate soil three or four times, the first two times combined with cultivation, the ridge soil will be blocked into the onion ditch, the ditch will be filled before and after summer heat; after the cultivation of soil to make the original ridge back into a ditch, onion ditch into a ridge back. The height of soil cultivation should be determined according to the growth height of pseudostems, generally 3~4 cm. The soil cultivation should be carried out to the leaf outlet of the uppermost leaf, and the heart leaf should not be buried to prevent leaf decay. When cultivating soil, the width of soil should not exceed 1/3 of the row spacing and 1/2 of the planting ditch depth to prevent damage to the root system.
