What if there are fewer female flowers in pumpkins?

Last Updated: 2024/11/06, In the process of production, I often hear melon farmers report that their pumpkins are disease-free and pest-free, with strong plants and fat leaves, but few flowers, especially female flowers, and "melon girls" are "angry to death". What is the cause of this? What can be done to save it? The answers are as follows. Pumpkin is a kind of right.

In the production process, the author often heard melon farmers reflect that their pumpkin has neither disease nor pest, the plant grows strong, the leaves are fat, but the flowers are few, especially the female flowers are few,"melon girl" is "angry". What is the reason for this? What can be done to save? The answer is as follows. Pumpkin is a plant with strong adaptability to soil, water and fertilizer conditions. Because of its strong ability to absorb water and fertilizer, it is easy to "burst the belly"(excessive nutrition) when planting or applying too much nitrogen fertilizer on fertile soil, resulting in too many branches and leaves of the plant, and less flowering and falling flowers, falling "girls"(commonly known as gas) phenomenon. There are three conventional rescue methods: one is to stop applying nitrogen fertilizer to prevent continued excess nutrients; the second is to cut the main root, press the branches and vines, promote the growth of internode adventitious roots, expand the ability of the root system to absorb soil moisture and inorganic salts, slow down the transport of nutrients to the growth point, and inhibit excessive growth; the third is to prune and remove leaves: that is, when cutting the main root and pressing the branches and vines, remove the lateral vines at the axils of male flowers and leaves, cut off the old leaves and part of the empty vines and leaves that cause shade, improve the field microclimate, and promote more flowers and more" girls". There's also a simple "bolt through" trick. The method is: cut a straight mouth along the growth direction of the main vine 33cm away from the pumpkin stump with a fruit knife, and insert a piece of charcoal as a material into the straight mouth. If charcoal is not available, bamboo chips or harder wood can be cut into matchstick-sized sticks to insert cross-shaped "latches" into the main vine at the above points. By adopting the above methods, it can effectively inhibit the excessive growth of melon plants, promote more female flowers, prevent melons, and significantly improve the rate of melons.
