After liberation, he and several colleagues set up night literacy classes and fell in love with the classroom ever since. In the following ten years, despite the ups and downs, he never gave up his study and dreamed of returning to the classroom. In 1978, Ye Lianping returned to school to teach until he retired from Maanshan and County Buchen School in Anhui Province in 1988.

In the eyes of the villagers, Ye Lianping is a "weirdo". He can get a pension of NT $3,000 to NT $4,000 a month, but in order to save 80 cents, he often rides seven kilometers to the town to buy vegetables, but also to pick up vegetables discarded by vegetable vendors and take them home, and he is not willing to take a car when he goes far away. But he is very generous to the children, he spends all his savings on the children, renting a car out of his own pocket to organize a summer camp trip for left-behind children to broaden their horizons.

Since 2013, Ye Lianping has also set up a "Ye Lianping Scholarship" with part of his pension. Teacher Ye said: "these bonuses can not solve any problems, the purpose is to encourage children to make further progress."

Once, a student had just been admitted to a preschool normal school, but due to poor family conditions and living far away, she could not come to make up lessons. When teacher Ye knew about this, she asked her friends everywhere to buy a used flashlight car for her. Mr. Ye doesn't want to give up any of his students. He is willing to teach as long as you are willing to learn. Ye Lianping was elected as a "good person in China" in June 2012.

Teacher Ye always shows signs of sewing and mending his clothes. He points to a patch on the collar and says with a smile, "do you think I have a patch on me?" What does it matter? just patch it. A restless retirement life

After 28 years of retirement, Ye Lianping has hardly been idle. When some school teachers ask for leave, they all ask him to take his place.

The substitute payment was 300 yuan a month, but he gave it all back to the school. He bought six accordions for five primary schools, installed electric lights for Songqiao Primary School, planted 100 metasequoia trees for Longwang Primary School, planted 220 poplar trees for Huangba Primary School, and so on.

Later, when he saw that the children were tired of learning because they could not learn English well, and that many of the left-behind children had no one to help with their homework, he set up an English class at home (the "Home for left-behind Children"). I help the children with their homework on weekdays and concentrate on giving them English lessons on weekends. He took care of all the books and teaching aids himself.

Because it is voluntary teaching, free of charge, and the students' grades are very good, many people naturally come here, which leads to all kinds of "gossip", but teacher Ye doesn't care. Teaching and educating people is not for others, but for peace of mind.

Once, Mr. Ye accidentally fell in the middle of the night. After being taken to the hospital, it was found to be cerebral hemorrhage plus meningitis. Although the operation was very risky, Mr. Ye's operation was very successful. During his illness, he was most concerned about those lovely children. Teacher Ye said: "although I have no children, but the students are my children, these children may be better than my own children."

Teacher Ye is well aware of the importance of knowledge. In his eyes, no matter how poor the students are, they should not give up the opportunity to learn. He helps children from poor families go to school, helps children with poor conditions to make up lessons, and helps rural schools with poor conditions to replenish teaching equipment.
