Planting methods of chicory
We may not know much about chicory, but its efficacy and value are very good. Chicory is covered with treasures, its buds can be eaten, leaves can be used as forage, and roots can be used as medicine. in recent years, there has also been a kind of tea called chicory tea, which is made of many medicinal herbs, the main ingredient of which is chicory root. So what we need to know today is how to grow chicory. Let's take a look at it.
1. Soil preparation and fertilization
Chicory can grow in clay, loam or sand, it does not require much of the soil, but it will grow better if it is slightly acidic. When we prepare the soil, we should scientifically prepare the soil according to the characteristics of chicory seeds. The planting of chicory is very small, so the soil should be fine, and then evenly sprinkle a sufficient amount of farm manure as base fertilizer, and finally turn the soil again, rake the soil flat, and you can prepare to sow.
2. Sowing seeds at the right time
The seeds need to be treated before sowing, and the seeds need to be dried in a cool and well-ventilated place about a week before sowing. Two days later, the seeds are collected and soaked in cold water. After the seeds are soaked, they can be sowed and drained. We usually sow seeds from June to early August every year, and the sowing methods are direct seeding, strip sowing and seedling transplanting, but the most common one is strip sowing, which is relatively simple and easy to manage.
3. Reasonable close planting
After the seeds sprout, we first have to check the growth of chicory seedlings in the field, whether there is a lack of seedlings or whether the seedlings in some places are too dense. If these two situations occur, we should carry out seedling thinning and seedling replenishment in time to ensure that the seedlings in the field are uniform. How to raise seedlings and transplant, it is necessary to ensure that each plant has at least three seedlings, and the distance between each plant is about 15 to 20 centimeters.
4. Field management
Chicory field management is relatively simple, mainly fertilizing, watering and pest control these three things, when the seedlings grow about five centimeters need to be fertilized, mainly urea, the right amount of adding some micro-fertilizer, urea can be carried out by spreading, but this is more wasteful, so it is best to irrigate with urea water, so watering and fertilization are in place in one step. If there is stagnant water in the field, it should be discharged in time, and chicory does not need to be weeded. Finally, the common diseases of chicory are downy mildew and rot, which are caused by too much water in the field and too much humidity in the air, which can be controlled by chlorothalonil and carbendazim, respectively. its main pests are aphids and some underground pests, which can be controlled by dimethoate and root irrigation with pesticides for underground pests.
5. Timely harvest
The branches and leaves of chicory can be harvested at least three to five times, of which the first time we can harvest chicory when the buds are still yellow and white, and the second time we can harvest chicory when it grows to about 20 to 30 centimeters. After that, each harvest needs to be harvested for a certain length, and finally, after professional harvest, we dig the roots.
