According to the investigation, Chinese millet has 15% empty buds in normal growing areas, and some are even as high as 50%, which seriously affected the growth of Chinese chestnut. The lack of boron is the main reason for the empty bud of Chinese chestnut. The application of boron fertilizer could obviously inhibit the formation of empty bud and increase the yield of Chinese chestnut. In spring, chestnut is applied in annular ditch or hole before sprouting. Borax was applied to the area with dense fibrous roots around the crown, and then covered with soil and watered with 0.1-0.15 kg per plant. In the same year, the empty bract rate of plate millet can be reduced to less than 4%, and the trees with empty bract rate of more than 50% can be reduced to less than 5% every year within 4 years after application. It can be seen that the application of boron fertilizer can meet the boron needs of Chinese chestnut for many years, reduce the empty bract rate and increase the yield.
