Analysis on the reasons for the use of old buds in eggplant grafting

Grafting eggplant with Torubam as rootstock is indeed a good way to control eggplant root-knot nematode, which is not only effective, low-cost, simple and easy, but also can effectively control "dead plants" caused by Verticillium wilt, Fusarium wilt and root rot of eggplant. However, recently, in order to save seed money, some vegetable farmers and nursery merchants have used the old buds of eggplant in the late growth stage as scions to graft eggplant, making exorbitant profits, resulting in some problems in production. First of all, the survival rate of grafted seedlings is on the low side. As long as eggplant seedlings are used as scions, as long as the techniques pass and proper measures are taken, the survival rate of grafted seedlings is generally more than 90%, while the survival rate of eggplant old buds grafting is only 60%. Secondly, the eggplant grafted with old buds has low yield and poor commerciality. According to the author's incomplete investigation, the same greenhouse has gone through the same fertilizer and water management. compared with those grafted with seedlings, the yield per mu is reduced by 1500-2000 kg and the income per mu is reduced by 4000-5000 yuan. According to the analysis of the reasons, the author thinks that: first, the old bud of eggplant has a high degree of Lignification and poor vitality, and after grafting with Tolubam, the early affinity is poor, various transport tissues are not smooth, and the transport of nutrients and water is hindered; second, eggplant old buds germinate with flower buds, grafted seedlings heal and flower bud differentiation takes place simultaneously, and the competition for nutrients will lead to poor flower bud differentiation, resulting in low yield and poor commerciality of eggplant. Third, eggplant old buds often carry a lot of bacteria, but due to environmental conditions, there is no disease. After grafting with it, once the environmental conditions in the shed are not good, all kinds of diseases will occur soon, which will undoubtedly increase the cost of disease control.
