In September, the weather is neither cold nor hot, grafted crab claw orchid or fairy finger is more suitable, the survival rate is high, the bud burst quickly, the shape is good-looking and not easy to rot roots! Today, Huahua will introduce several different types of grafting.

Cactus grafting crab claw orchid (or cactus finger) to resist cold and drought

Grafting with cactus is relatively simple and easy, and has the advantages of good cold and drought resistance and convenient management.

Grafting step

1. Rootstock and scion selection

The rootstock chooses cactus with strong growth and thick leaves, and yellow thorn is fine.

The scion is made of crab claw orchid with a high degree of Lignification, pinch the head and remove the tail, and remove the tender leaves at the top and the old leaves at the bottom.

2. Find a wallpaper knife, simply disinfect it with alcohol, cut off the top part of the rootstock horizontally, and then cut off the epidermis with a blade from the lower part of the scion to reveal the white xylem.

Note that both sides of the scion should be cut into wedge-shaped incisions of the same size, preferably with one knife, not repeatedly.

3. Deviate from the middle position at the horizontal cut of the cactus, cut a V-shaped socket vertically with a blade, the depth is about 2~3cm, and then immediately insert the cut scion to make the rootstock closely combine with the scion.

4. Deviate from the middle position at the horizontal cut of the cactus, cut a V-shaped socket vertically with the blade, the depth is about 2~3cm.

5. According to the height of cactus, several incisions can be made on the side of the leaf and multi-layer crab claw orchid can be grafted.

6. Maintenance

After grafting, move to a cool place and cover the flowerpot with a plastic bag to improve the air humidity.

Water again 10 days after grafting, once every 3-4 days, but do not water more, just keep the soil slightly moist. 25 days later, the scion is not withered, and new stems and leaves will grow within 2 months.

Keel grafted crab claw orchid (or fairy finger), growing rapidly

Rootstocks such as keel are the most common and most frequently used, and their advantages are very significant. The growth rate can be increased by 4 to 5 times after grafting.

Grafting step

1. Rootstock and scion selection

The rootstock selects the strong growth keel, the scion selects the crab claw orchid leaf in good condition, and the lower end of the scion is cut into a wedge.

2. Cross-cut with a sterilized knife at the top of the keel, then make several V-shaped incisions down, and then immediately insert the scion into the incision, which can be fixed with a toothpick.

3. You can also continue to make a few more incisions in the three corners of the keel and graft multi-layer crab claw orchid.

The maintenance skills after grafting are the same as above.

Ye Xian marries crab claw orchid (or fairy finger), which is resistant to drought and waterlogging and propagates quickly.

Ye Xian as a rootstock has many advantages, but repeated grafting at the origin, failure does not matter; fast growth, drought and waterlogging resistance, rarely rotten roots!

Grafting step

1. Rootstock and scion selection

The rootstock chooses 1-2-year-old leaf fairy branches with a diameter about as thick as 5mm, and cuttings use well-growing crab claw orchid leaves.

2. Grafting

Cut off the top of the branch of Ye Xian, cut a deep 1cm incision with a sharp knife where it is to be grafted, then cut the bottom of the scion into a wedge-shaped incision, then quickly insert it into the rootstock and fix it with a grafting clip.

3. After grafting, put it in a cool and ventilated place to keep the soil slightly moist and do not touch water at the interface.

In addition to the above types, crab claw orchid can also be grafted with plants such as aloe, dragon fruit, false epiphyllum, cactus and so on. The operation steps are similar, but the flowers will not be introduced one by one. Let's talk about how to improve the survival rate of grafting.

How to improve the survival rate of grafted crab claw orchid?

1. The soil in the rootstock basin must be dry.

When grafting, make sure that the pot soil of the rootstock is dry! Rootstocks are mostly cactus family, if the basin soil is wet, nature, the plant will continue to absorb water, set aside for use in drought, in this case grafting, the interface is easy to seep water, rot.

2. Grafting tools should be disinfected.

When cutting incisions, cutters must be disinfected with alcohol. Water-stained and rusty knives generally carry germs, which are easy to infect rootstocks and scions, greatly reducing the survival rate.

3. The interface does not drip wax or touch water.

Many people like to seal the interface with wax to speed up the fusion, but this will form an oxygen-free environment, resulting in the scion at the interface can not breathe, but it is even more difficult to merge, and can be fixed directly with a toothpick or grafting clip.
