Hong Kong, which is more than an hour away from Taiwan, is a cosmopolitan city that Chinese people are all too familiar with. If you ask the Chinese people's impression of Hong Kong, apart from the Hong Kong star Hong Kong drama, it may be the images of high-rise buildings, malls and seaports. However, can you imagine that the coverage of green space in Hong Kong is 70%?

During the British colonial era, out of strategic considerations, the Hong Kong Government allowed Hong Kong to maintain a certain scale of agricultural production. Before the ○ years in 1966, the self-sufficiency rate of local vegetables in Hong Kong even reached 3 ○%. However, it was also in the ○ era that Hong Kong, as one of the four little dragons in Asia, developed by leaps and bounds. at the same time, economic output replaced strategic considerations, and the value of agriculture began to be diminished. Economic development has led to a surge in population. At a time when the importance of agriculture has been declining, the development of agricultural land as a new town has come one after another, nibbling up whales and eventually abandoning agriculture.

2. ○ in 2015, the self-sufficiency rate of vegetables and rice in Hong Kong was less than 2% and less than 1% respectively. Although Hong Kong's grain depends almost entirely on imports, it is ironic that 1/3 of the rubbish Hong Kong people throw away every day is food waste. In the face of such a situation, how does Hong Kong society respond?

Food waste reduction Action after the Financial Tsunami

Around nine years after ○○, Hong Kong was hit by the financial tsunami. Severe price increases have damaged the economic balance of many working families whose expenditure is barely balanced. At the same time, a large amount of usable food has been discarded, taking up various storage space, thus increasing the cost of handling. The Confederation of Trade unions Education Fund of the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade unions launched the "good Food" Food Recycling Programme in 2000 ○○ in 1999, with a view to waste reduction and resource reuse under the mode of "Low Waste", "Low Carbon Footprint" and "Local Network", with a view to improving the waste of food and other resources in Hong Kong society, and enabling people from all walks of life to "eat well" (eat well).

At present, the good Food Scheme has set up a food recycling centre in Tai Po, Yuen long and Kwai Tsing. This is the first time that Hong Kong has been organized and labour organizations are systematically concerned about the waste and reuse of food.

In addition to leftovers, the CTU also promotes the recycling of used clothing and other materials (Photography / Zhang Zhengyang)
