Forest frog is an important economic frog species in China, which has high edible and medicinal value. Because of its large market demand and increasingly scarce wild quantity, it attracts a lot of people to breed, but it is difficult to overwintering when breeding. Often, a large number of forest frogs die because of improper management during the winter. So let's take a look at how the forest frog can survive the winter safely.

1. Overwintering adaptation period

There is an adaptation period before and after overwintering of forest frog, which is the adaptation period of entering the sting and the adaptation period of getting out of the sting. the management of these two periods is very important, which is the key to whether the forest frog can survive the winter safely. Before overwintering, the climate is unstable, and the forest frog begins to change from lung breathing to skin breathing, so it needs an adaptation period. With the continuous change of climate, the forest frog adjusts its body function on its own. When the temperature is low, the forest frog will enter the water, and when the temperature rises, it will return to the shore, repeated several times, until it can be completely converted into skin breathing before it normally begins to enter the overwintering period. At this time, if the forest frog is forced into the water to survive the winter, it is very likely that it will not adapt and eventually suffocate to death. Similarly, the adaptation period of the sting is the end of dormancy and the beginning of landing of the forest frog. The temperature difference between day and night in spring is large. When the temperature is low, it will look for hidden cover to adapt to the environment. If there is no place suitable for it in the site, it will die.

2. Overwintering pond overwintering

Nowadays, the main overwintering methods used in forest frog breeding are facility overwintering pool type and cellar type. Facility overwintering pool refers to the construction of overwintering pool in greenhouse or greenhouse environment. Generally, a rectangular pool is dug to ensure a water level of 1 meter after freezing. So the specific depth depends on the environment of each region. There should be sloping land on the side of the overwintering pool to facilitate the water outlet of the forest frog after overwintering, and a device should be installed at the inlet and outlet to prevent water leakage, and some stones can be placed at the bottom of the overwintering pool to simulate the field environment. After the pool is built, it is necessary to take good disinfection measures to avoid bacterial infection during the overwintering, and pay attention to the harm of snakes and rats, but when the water temperature is higher than the air temperature, you can overwinter, generally putting about 300 forest frogs per square meter. When overwintering, the equipment can be used to keep the pool water flowing slightly, and the water needs to be changed every 10 days. when changing the water, do not replace the one-time precipitation, generally change the water 1/5 to 1/3 each time, so that the water temperature difference is not more than 2 degrees, and aeration should be carried out in time after changing the water. Keep the dissolved oxygen in the water at 7-9mg per liter, change the water in time during hypoxia, maintain the dissolved oxygen content, maintain the water temperature at 2-4 degrees, and the overwintering survival rate is more than 95%.

3. Cellar overwintering

The cellar overwintering pool is different from the overwintering pool. The overwintering pool overwinters in the water body, while the cellar has no water. When digging the cellar, it depends on the local air temperature. Generally, the deeper the cellar is, the higher the temperature at the bottom of the cellar is. The northeast cold region can dig about 2.5 meters deep. At least half a meter of soil should be covered at the bottom of the cellar, and there should be a ventilation hole and a pit door. The air hole is half a meter higher than the top soil layer of the cellar. A layer of mud and sand can be laid at the bottom of the cellar, and then a layer of dead branches and leaves can be placed on it. This is also to simulate the forest environment, so that forest frogs can quickly adapt. You can put 200 to 300 animals per square meter, and it can also be reduced accordingly according to the situation. When overwintering, the temperature is controlled at 1 degree below zero, the humidity is between minus 6 degrees, the humidity is 80%, 90%, and the mortality rate is extremely low. Once the temperature is too high, it is necessary to ventilate and cool down in time, and if the humidity is too low, spray water mist to humidify in time.
