The investigation found that due to the low ground temperature in spring this year, the winter wheat in this area returned to green 10 days later than in previous years, the first internode of wheat was longer than in previous years, but the second internode did not grow well, and the stem was soft. Winter wheat has 12-16 nodes, with the second internode being the key. Technicians worry that if this continues, once dry and hot weather is encountered in June, it may cause large-scale lodging of wheat, seriously affecting wheat yield and quality. According to further investigation by experts, this phenomenon is more common in Gaocheng, Hebei Province, and it is suggested that the majority of farmers in winter wheat areas should attach great importance to it. Emergency measures taken within a week could alleviate the problem. Experts put forward specific measures: spraying 30kg of 1% potassium nitrate solution on wheat leaves, spraying again 3-5 days after the first spraying, the effect is better. The direct cost of spraying potassium nitrate is about 1 yuan/mu, the investment is small, and the effect is remarkable. At present, Hebei Gaocheng agricultural administrative departments and agricultural technology extension units have taken action to inform the majority of farmers, according to the recommendations of soil fertilizer experts, spraying potassium fertilizer. Experts put forward the following suggestions for farmers to plant winter wheat fertilizer in the future in view of the problems arising from the growth of low-temperature wheat in spring this year: half of the potassium fertilizer applied at one time in the past can be reserved for application from the late stage of wheat rising to the early stage of jointing, mainly spraying potassium nitrate once, which can not only replace paclobutrazol (a hormone), but also ensure the nitrogen and potassium needs of wheat during this period.
