Because bullfrog is a variable temperature animal, it begins to hibernate when the water temperature drops to 6 ℃ 12. In order to ensure the economic benefit of bullfrog breeding, the management of hibernation period should pay attention to the following aspects.

Keep fat

After entering hibernation, bullfrogs do not eat at the bottom of the water or in caves, relying on the dissolved oxygen in the breathing water of the skin and the nutrients accumulated in the body to maintain the weak metabolism, so keep fat before hibernation. Feed with high nutritional value and more comprehensive feed should be given every day, and some maggots and Loach can be fed conditionally to ensure that bullfrogs have enough to eat, so as to accumulate nutrients needed for hibernation, reduce death and ensure breeding efficiency.

Shelter from the wind

When bullfrogs spend the winter in caves, they should choose to dig caves in the leeward and sunny places. The size of the cave depends on the scale of culture. It is generally 15cm in diameter, with a depth of more than 1m and varying in length. The cave should be moist and avoid flooding, and wind barriers should be set up. In addition, rats should be strictly prevented from invading during hibernation.

Anti-freezing

During the overwintering period, the 2cm water layer of the frog pond should be maintained, and the scaffolding should be set up on the water surface to prevent frost. Bamboo slices can be used to form a semicircular scaffolding above the pool, covered with straw curtains or thin films. When the temperature is above 6 ℃, the film should be opened partly to facilitate ventilation and adjust the temperature in the shed. At the same time, the freshness of the pool water and the stability of the water level should be checked regularly.
