Soft-shelled turtle is a variable temperature animal, and the change of ambient temperature directly affects its feeding and activities. When the water temperature is lower than 20 ℃, its feeding and activity decrease gradually, stop eating at 15 ℃, and hibernate in the mud at 12 ℃, so as to reduce self-consumption and maintain life. Soft-shelled turtles that do not enter the greenhouse for the winter sometimes die during hibernation.

Cause of death

1. When the soft-shelled turtle begins to hibernate, the water temperature is too low and suffers from cold injury.

2. There is too much organic matter at the bottom of the pool, which produces harmful gases such as hydrogen sulfide and methane.

3. There is too little feed before winter, and the soft-shelled turtle is excessively short of nutrients and calories.

4. The soft-shelled turtle went into hibernation after being injured.

Precautionary measures

1. The soft-shelled turtle should be fed fresh and high-quality feed with high nutritional value during the spawning period and before hibernation, and the feeding amount should be increased appropriately.

2. The pool water should be deepened before hibernation, and the general water depth should reach about 1.5 meters.

3. During hibernation, people and animals should not often walk around the pool, lest the soft-shelled turtle will be frightened from the outside and affect the normal hibernation.

4. If there is too much rotten organic matter at the bottom of the pond, the soft-shelled turtle should clear the pond and change water before hibernating.

5. For injured soft-shelled turtles, they should be sold in time and do not stay for the winter.

6. For soft-shelled turtles transported in winter, because some of them have lost their ability to enter the water, they should choose the sunny warm place to bask in the sun first, and then put them into the pool after restoring their activity ability; for individuals who still cannot drill into the mud by themselves by using the above-mentioned method, it can be pressed gently into the sediment manually.
