Cultured water snakes have the advantages of low cost, high survival rate and wide feed sources. Because the snake has strong adaptability to temperature, humidity and breeding environment, it is easy to manage and domesticate, and is not dangerous compared with other snakes. Therefore, it is especially suitable for farmers who raise snakes for the first time or whose funds are small. The breeding techniques of water snakes are introduced as follows.

Water source

Water snakes have aquatic or semi-aquatic habits, so it is necessary to keep an adequate and clean source of water during the active season, and thoroughly clean the pool and remove dirt every 7-15 days in midsummer.

Food source

In addition to eating all kinds of freshwater mixed fish and Loach, water snakes also like rice field eel and all kinds of frogs. They should be fed on time according to the season that is easy to catch or the fattening characteristics of water snakes, so as to diversify the types of feeding as far as possible to meet the needs of their growth. Most water snakes have a strong appetite and eat every 4-5 days. A water snake weighing 100-200 grams can swallow 1-2 small mixed fish at a time, and as many as 3-4 fish. Don't disturb the snake too much after eating, otherwise it will spit out the food swallowed into its belly, which is extremely disadvantageous to the growth of the water snake. You should reduce the number of wait-and-see times or refuse strangers to visit.

Feeding density

The suitable density of cultured water snakes is 12-15 per square meter, which can be more in three-dimensional culture, but it should not exceed 2 times of the suitable density.

Disinfection

Under normal feeding conditions, it should be disinfected 2-3 times a month, either by spraying or splashing water. Because most water snakes like to gather together to bask in the sun after eating during the day; when the external temperature reaches more than 32 ℃, they huddle together in groups, and only the outcrop is immersed in the water for a long time. Therefore, disinfection should avoid water snakes outside the peak period, it is best to choose in the early morning or evening, so as not to be disturbed.
