Etiology

The stocking density is high and the water quality is too alkaline. The disease is more common in red-eared turtles and turtles, and the incidence of young turtles is higher, and the onset season is more common in spring, autumn and early spring after overwintering.

Symptoms of onset

The sick tortoise has inflamed and congested eyes and enlarged eyes. The cornea and nasal mucosa are eroded by inflammation. The outside of the eyeball is covered by white secretions and cannot be opened. The sick tortoise moves slowly. In severe cases, it must stop eating and eventually die.

Treatment method

For the treatment of sick turtles, antibiotic eye drops or eye ointment can be used and daub the affected area once or twice a day. At the same time, penicillin was injected with 40,000 to 50,000 international units per kilogram of turtle body, once a day for 2 to 3 days.

1. If there are a large number of diseased turtles, one or two antibiotics (500000 to 1 million IU / L) can be used to dissolve in water and soak the turtle body for 30 to 60 minutes, several times a day until cured.

2. Turtles with mild symptoms (eyes can still be opened) can be soaked in furacilin or furazolidone solution with a concentration of 30 mg per liter for 40 minutes for 3-5 days.

3. For turtles with serious symptoms (unable to open their eyes), first remove the white matter and necrotic epidermis in the eyes, then immerse the sick turtles in the solution containing vitamin B and oxytetracycline, and put 0.5 tablets of oxytetracycline and 2 tablets of vitamin B in every 500 g of water. If the treatment of green turtles, apply furazolidone smear eyes, can not be soaked all over the body.

Precautionary measures

1. Strengthen the feeding and management to keep the water quality clean. Change the water after feeding in hot weather to avoid food corruption and pollute the water quality. Apply bleach or quicklime regularly to improve the water quality and disinfect the water, so as to create a good environment suitable for its healthy growth. Turtle utensils should be disinfected. For example, the glass tank should be soaked in 10% salt water for 30 minutes, then rinse with clean water before raising turtles.

2. Feed the turtle liver and other turtles' favorite concentrate feed in the disease season to increase nutrition, enhance resistance and reduce the incidence of disease.
