The life-long growth process of cicadas
The cicada is one of the families of the suborder Hemiptera Cervical beak, commonly known as cicada, lotus, thumb acridine, cicada monkey and so on. it is an incomplete metamorphosis insect, from eggs and larvae (nymphs) to adults after a molting rather than pupa period. let's take a look at the growth process of the cicada all its life.
Cicada egg
From June to July every year, cicadas change from pupae to adults and then lay eggs in just a few days. the eggs are at their peak from late May to early June in the following year, and the hatching activities end in late June, accounting for about 80% in the daytime and afternoons. it hatches less at night, about 20%, and the egg period is close to 300 days.
Larva
Cicada larvae live in the soil, have a pair of strong digging forefeet, suck sap at the roots of host plants, and are less active. They usually stay in the soil for several years or even more than ten years. When the temperature drops after autumn, they drill into the deep soil to survive the winter. after the spring is warm, it moves upward to move up to the tree root, and the nymph number in the soil is the most in May of the year.
Eclosion
After the cicada completed the whole life process of the nymph in the soil, the mature nymph drilled out of the soil from late May to mid-late August, crawled to the branches of shrubs and weeds, fixed on the bark branches and leaves with the thorns of claws and forefeet, and molted and feathered into adults.
Adult worm
Usually, the peak period of adult emergence is from mid-June to mid-July, and the end of October is at the end of October. About 20 days after emergence, the adult begins to spawn, and begins to lay eggs in late June. The peak spawning period is from the end of June to late August, and the last spawning period is from early September to early October. The adult will die after laying eggs, and the eggs begin to hatch into the next life cycle.
