Horned frogs are amphibians. Tadpoles live in water and adults are mainly terrestrial. If friends who raise horned frogs do not breed on their own, they may wonder how they gradually become adults from tadpoles. Let's take a look at the whole growth process of horned frogs from tadpoles to larvae and then to adults.

Horned frog tadpole

The horn frog tadpole is about 1 cm long and can grow into a healthy young horned frog in four to six weeks. During the feeding process, sufficient oxygen in the water must be maintained and the temperature must be balanced (the lowest temperature is 25 degrees Celsius to the highest temperature is about 30 degrees Celsius). For tadpoles to survive completely, there must be adequate cup containers or isolators, as well as clean water, feed for red worms and small organisms to float and sink in the water.

Horned frog larva

When the tadpole grows healthy limbs, it can be transferred to a separate container and raised in a semi-terrestrial way. After the metamorphosis has successfully absorbed the nutrients in the tail, it can be taken care of in the same way as the general horned frog. Less than 20 degrees in winter will weaken the resistance of horned frogs, feeding must not exceed the size of 1/2 horned frogs, to avoid digestive system load. The process of growing up to adult size is as fast as six to eight months, during which time you must eat all the time, but this may lead to unhealthy obesity and can be fed in intervals, about twice a week. Among them, nutrients can be replenished every two weeks (calcium and D3 vitamins). D3 vitamins are the key to gastrointestinal nutrient absorption and can be regarded as a necessity in general. Under healthy and non-obese growth, it takes 12 to 18 months to complete an adult.

Horn frog adult

Male adults have dark patterns and loose laryngeal sacs on the chin, and dark lumps develop on the forefeet during courtship, as well as calls at any time. The female adult chin pattern is very light, the throat is wider than the average male, the size is also more than half of the average male, the female can hardly bark, in the same group of growing horned frogs, the female will grow faster than the male. Adult frogs are predators, usually only live animals, actively looking for prey or passively catching prey when they are close to a certain distance, catching prey with their tongue on land and catching prey directly with their jaws in the water. It takes about ten years from larval to adult death, and it is said that hibernation can effectively improve survival time.

Note: the course of development and metamorphosis of horned frogs (refers to the development of fertilized eggs into young frogs) varies from species to species, mainly due to the adaptation of horned frogs to long-term living environment.
