Golden monkeys have soft fur and upturned noses. There are 6 species of Burmese golden monkeys, Nujiang golden monkeys, Sichuan golden monkeys, Yunnan golden monkeys, Guizhou golden monkeys and Vietnamese golden monkeys. Except Burmese golden monkeys and Vietnamese golden monkeys, they are all unique precious animals in China. They live in high mountains and forests. They eat berries, bamboo shoots and moss. They also like eating bird eggs and other meat. Their habitat is very high altitude and their long hair can be cold resistant.

habitat

Golden monkeys are typical forest arboreal animals, inhabiting forests at altitudes of 1500 to 3300 meters all year round. The vegetation types and vertical distribution zones of the trees belong to four vegetation types: subtropical mountain evergreen, deciduous broad-leaved mixed forest, subtropical deciduous broad-leaved forest, evergreen coniferous forest and secondary coniferous broad-leaved mixed forest. With the change of seasons, they do not migrate horizontally, but only move vertically in the habitat environment. They live in groups, each large group being an active unit of a small family group. The largest group can reach more than 600 in primates, such a large group is rare.

food habit

Golden monkeys live in groups in high mountains and dense forests. They live mainly in trees, but also find food on the ground. To wild fruits, shoots, bamboo shoots, mosses for food. Staple food leaves, tender branches, flowers, fruit, but also eat bark and roots, love to eat insects, birds and eggs.

gregarious habit

Golden monkeys have a typical family lifestyle, members care for each other, foraging together, playing and resting together. In the home of the golden monkey, the juvenile golden monkey has a strong curiosity, very naughty, and is also favored by its parents, but the young male monkey will be driven out of the house by his father when he is an adult and can only live independently in the wild.

growth and reproduction

Autumn is the estrous period of golden monkeys every year. The sexual maturity of females is earlier than that of males, females are about 4~5 years old, and males are about 7 years late. All year round mating, but 8~10 months for the mating peak, pregnancy 6 months, more than 3~4 months to give birth, some also in February or May to give birth. Female monkeys are pregnant for about 6 months, usually giving birth to one baby, occasionally giving birth to two babies. Newborn monkeys have dark blue faces, brown fur, cry like babies, weigh more than one kilogram a month later, and the ratio of males to females is about 1:2 in adult monkeys. With the elevation of habitat, the estrous period of different species of golden monkeys will be delayed.
