Breeding technique of weasel
Weasel scientific name yellow weasel, small carnivore, nocturnal, inhabit in plains, swamps, valleys, villages, cities and mountains and other areas, mainly rodents for food, occasionally eat other small mammals, fur suitable for making watercolor or oil painting brush, Chinese called wolf hair, has a certain breeding value, let's take a look at weasel breeding technology!
weasel cage facility
Weasel cage consists of wire cage and nest box. The iron wire cage is a place for eating and activities. It is 70 cm long, 40 cm wide and 40 cm high. It is welded into a frame by steel bars or angle steels, surrounded by iron wire mesh with a mesh diameter of 1~2 cm. A door is provided above the cage for feeding and cleaning. A hole is left at the bottom of the side of the cage to communicate with the nest box for weasels to enter and exit. The nest box was used for weasels to rest and give birth. It was slightly smaller than the cage. It was made of hard and thick wooden boards. There was also a door on the box for cleaning and inspection. Cage site should be dry, ventilated, sunny, sanitary and quiet, try to avoid human interference, large-scale breeding or conditional, can be set up in the cage shelter from rain and sun roof, another brick or iron wall.
Weasel breeding method
Weasel is 8~10 months old and sexually mature. It can produce 1 litter every year for 3~4 years. The gestation period is 33~38 days. The litter number is 5~10. Weasel belongs to seasonal breeding animals, February to April in the south and April to May in the north. During estrus, male and female ferrets are active, eat less, often call, and seek the opposite sex. Male ferret testicles are enlarged, round, irritable, and occasionally emit "cooing" calls. Female ferret early oestrus, genital swelling slightly prominent, pink, exposed obvious. Estrus peak period, vulva obvious redness, red or purple, labia eversion, mucus, pubic hair bundle inverted to both sides, mild temperament. In this case mating, pregnancy rate is the highest, after the initial mating should be compounded 2~3 times, the ratio of male to female 1:4~5 is appropriate. Weasels nest about 30 days after conception, when soft, clean hay is placed in the nest box. Female ferret antenatal excitement restless, frequent access, and even refused to feed, giving birth process 20~30 minutes. Keep the environment quiet during the breeding season to avoid miscarriage, premature delivery, dystocia or biting of the young.
weasel rearing
Within two weeks of birth, the weasel lives entirely on breast milk. When female ferrets start feeding their young, they should be supplied with a nutrient-rich diet rich in vitamin A and vitamin D. When the weasel can feed freely, feed twice a day, feed with digestible and nutritious semi-liquid or viscous food is good, such as milk, eggs and chopped fresh fish, pay attention to heat preservation and freshness. Under normal circumstances, weaning can be carried out at 30 days old. After weaning, weasels are reared in litters and raised in cages of the same size, 2~3 in each cage. In summer, the cages are shaded to ensure adequate drinking water and prevent heatstroke. Clean and disinfect utensils frequently, and clean cages in time. Discovered young ferret spirit dispirited, slow action, erect hair, dry eyes, back arch, tail hair stained with feces, refused to feed and other abnormal performance, should be timely examined and treated. After 90 days of age, they were raised and managed as adult ferrets. The young of that year can be skinned in winter or put into the population for reproduction in the following spring.
Weasel feeding management
Weasels were fed twice a day, 40% of the ration at 7 - 8 am and 60% at 5 - 6 pm (4 - 5 pm in winter). Pregnant and lactating female ferret, small feeding at noon 1 time. Except in winter and lactation, stop eating once a week to stimulate its intake. Check weasel's spirit, activity, appetite, feces and other conditions every day, and treat them in time when they come on. Check the cages frequently and repair any damage immediately. Before feeding in the evening, clean the cage thoroughly, replace the bedding, scrub the utensils and replenish the water. The premises, cages and utensils are disinfected regularly. Summer do a good job of heatstroke prevention, moisture, disease prevention work.
Weasel feed mix
1. Feed matching: Weasel mixture strives for diversification, rich nutrition and strong palatability. Animal feeds include livestock, poultry and rats, frogs, fish, birds, snakes, insects and so on. Grain feed includes corn flour, bran, bean cake, etc. Vegetable feed includes radish, cabbage, beet, etc., fresh or dried, mineral feed includes salt, bone meal, etc.
2, non-breeding period: weasel non-breeding period feed for fish or meat 30%, viscera 25%, grain 35%, vegetables 10%, plus salt 0.5 g, bone meal 2 g, yeast 2 g, cod liver oil 0.5 g.
3. Breeding period: weasel breeding period feed for fish or meat 40%, viscera 25%, milk 5%, grain 20%, vegetables 10%, plus salt 0.5 g, bone meal 1.5 g, yeast 2 g, cod liver oil 1 g.
4. Daily feeding amount: 150~ 200g for male ferret and 130~ 180g for female ferret above 90 days of age.
Note: weasel breeding in the non-breeding period animal feed to chicken viscera, fish and frogs, cicada pupae for the best, to ensure the need for protein, improve the quality of fur. In the mating period, fish meal, livestock head and viscera are added to promote the development of sexual organs. In pregnancy and lactation, to feed complete feed, feed frogs, live loach and other palatable feed. Vegetables should be fresh and hygienic, and no spoiled feed should be fed.
