Cockroaches, also known as Xiaoqiang, Huang Niang, oil thief, etc., generally refer to insects belonging to the order Blattella, of which only about dozens of species invade human homes, and there are several kinds of food raised by humans as pets and as pets. Most species can only be seen in wild mountain forests or insect museums. Let's take a look at how long a cockroach can live.

How long can a cockroach live?

The life span of cockroach adults is also longer, the shortest of Blattella germanica is about 100 days, and the longest life span of Periplaneta Americana can survive as long as 1 year, and the life span also varies with species and environmental conditions. In the case of Blattella germanica with the shortest cycle, it generally takes more than 2 months to complete a generation, and the longest Periplaneta Americana takes more than one year. The length of life history varies not only with species, but also with different temperature, nutrition and other conditions. A fertilized female cockroach produces a large number of egg sheaths in its lifetime, and Periplaneta Americana can produce more than 50 eggs at most, so the cockroach has a strong fecundity.

What kind of food do cockroaches eat?

Cockroaches are omnivorous insects with a wide variety of foods, including bread, rice, cakes, meat and vegetarian cooked foods, melons, fruits and beverages, especially noodles with fragrance, sweetness and oil, and have a habit of eating oil. Brown sugar and maltose are the most attractive to them. In addition to loving all kinds of food, cockroaches often bite on other things, such as cotton and wool products, leather products, paper, books, soap, etc., in housing, warehouses, storerooms, etc., and eat rotten organic matter in places such as outdoor garbage dumps, sewers and toilets, and even bite dead animals. But there are some differences in eating habits among different kinds of cockroaches.

The secret of cockroaches' headless survival

1. Cockroaches can survive for a week without a head. If you understand why cockroaches and other insects can survive without a head, you can understand why humans can't. If humans had their heads cut off, they would immediately bleed and their blood pressure would drop, hampering the transport of oxygen and nutrients, unable to supply the tissues needed to sustain life. In addition, human breathing depends on the mouth or nose, and these functions are controlled by the brain, so the head is cut off and breathing stops. Besides, humans cannot eat without a head.

2. The blood pressure of cockroaches is different from that of humans. Cockroaches do not have the same large vascular network as humans, nor do they need high blood pressure to ensure that blood can reach capillaries. They have an open circulatory system that does not require too much high blood pressure. When you cut off their heads, the wounds on their necks quickly solidify due to the action of platelets, preventing them from bleeding. Also, cockroaches breathe through the valves-they have small holes in each segment of the body. In addition, they do not need to control respiratory function through the brain, and the blood does not need to transport oxygen. They only need to go through the valve pipe to breathe air directly through the catheter.

3. Cockroaches are cold-blooded, which means they need much less food than humans. In other words, they can last for weeks with one meal. As long as they do not encounter predators and the wound is not infected by bacteria or viruses, they can survive.
