What if the hamster gets heatstroke?
Hamster is the general name of hamster subfamily, a very strong solitary animal, but also a very popular pet. In hot summer, people may get heatstroke, dogs and cats may get heatstroke, and small hamsters may also get heatstroke. After heatstroke, they all show different symptoms. Let's take a look at how hamsters get heatstroke.
The cause of hamster heatstroke
Hamsters or hamster cages are located in places where the sun can directly shine or where the room temperature is more than 30 ℃. If the cage is an all-plastic cage with poor ventilation, it is more likely to have heatstroke. Heatstroke usually occurs in a hot summer, but if the hamster is in a place where the sun can directly shine, even in other seasons, it is possible to avoid putting the hamster cage in a place where the sun can directly shine (such as a balcony). Hamsters also like dark places.
Symptoms of hamster heatstroke
It was observed that hamsters who had just suffered from heatstroke would be very excited, they would run around as much as they could, and they looked very excited and crazy. However, it begins to wilt in a few minutes, and if it is not treated in time, the hamster may die within minutes. Remember, this is not scaremongering, but implementation.
What if the hamster gets heatstroke?
1. The hamster should be placed in an air-conditioned room immediately after heatstroke. It is best to put a towel in a small box, put the mouse face up, put the towel up to protect the wind, and cover the mouse's abdomen and feet at the same time. You must keep your chest and body warm. Do not blindly cool down.
2. When taking human diarrhea, doctors often prescribe small packets of physiological salt (containing glucose) that are used to replenish water, and rarely add pure water to stir (if the mouse is small, you can't put a lot of physiological salt). Dip it on the mouse's mouth with a cotton swab. If the mouse is conscious, it will subconsciously swallow. If unconsciously, put the mouse head up and gently push the mouth to help the liquid enter the mouse's intestines. It must be careful not to give pure water only to rats and mice, because heatstroke causes a large amount of salt loss and dehydration in the body, so giving only pure water will cause an imbalance in intracellular and extracellular concentration and aggravate the symptoms of dehydration. It is OK to add some edible salt without normal saline, but the edible salt does not contain glucose, so its nutritional effect is relatively poor.
3. Sometimes the situation of the mouse may be very dangerous, such as kicking, breathing with open mouth, shortness of breath or no reaction at all. At this time, while paying attention to keeping warm, you can give some medicine that people use to save the heart. Jiuxin pills (small black pills) can be stuffed into the mouse's mouth and dipped in normal saline to help the mouse dissolve the pill. At this time, the mouse should not react. The process lasts about 3 to 4 minutes, during which the mouse's feet may become cold, which can be rubbed or gently massaged on the chest to help the mouse breathe normally and maintain its body temperature.
4. After a period of time, the mouse and mouse gradually become conscious and will subconsciously spit out the pill. It can be stuffed back once or twice, or the pill can be taken out, because the mouse is small, and the effect of a little medicine is enough. Of course, the premise is to restore the consciousness of the subconscious and have the ability to react on their own. Continue to regularly replenish normal saline, rats may refuse (such as pushing away with claws and so on), or stick to it!
5. Replenish saline regularly for about 3 hours (not very regularly, but not frequently). The mouse may not wake up yet, but it will react slightly when touching it, and it will shout softly. What you need to do at this time is to wrap the rat in a towel, expose the breathable place, and put it in an air-conditioned room to have a good rest. Because it takes a certain amount of time for the mouse to recover, you can put the mouse belly down so that the abdomen is warmer and the mouse will sleep. Although he also didn't open his eyes, he obviously felt nothing wrong, showing that his breathing was smooth and his limbs, including the soles of his feet, were warm.
