Pelteobagrus fulvidraco is not fond of artificial feed when there is plenty of biological food in the pond. Before feeding artificial feed, the water quality must be kept good, and there should be very little biological bait (especially animal bait) in the pond. The ponds with poor water quality should be treated by sprinkling water improvers and injecting new water, chemical methods (spraying pesticides all over) should be used to kill organisms in ponds rich in biological bait, and fish diseases in ponds with fish diseases should be controlled first.

1. Water quality treatment: increase the transparency of water body and keep it around 30cm; reduce ammonia nitrogen and nitrite; and reduce the ph value of pond water with high ph value.

2. Reduce the total amount of animal feed in the water: at the seedling stage, Pelteobagrus fulvidraco usually uses the methods of sprinkling soybean milk and applying biological fertilizer to cultivate animal feed. These operations must be stopped before domestication in order to reduce the total amount of animal food in the pond. For ponds rich in animal bait, necessary measures should be taken to kill bait animals.

Specific practice: in the leeward where zooplankton gather, sprinkle crystal trichlorfon on the area of the pond 1, 5, 1 and 3, so that the concentration of trichlorfon reaches 0.01~0.02ppm.

To domesticate the eating habits of Pelteobagrus fulvidraco, we should seize the best time and choose the right specification: when the specification of cultivating Pelteobagrus fulvidraco in the pond reaches about 3 cm, it begins to be domesticated artificially. In order to domesticate Pelteobagrus fulvidraco, artificial bait with a certain particle size should be prepared according to the specifications of Pelteobagrus fulvidraco. Domestication should be done by means, step by step, and not in haste.

1. Running water to attract fish: flush with a water pump twice a day in the morning and evening a week before feeding, for 2-3 hours each time. When flushing, the outlet should keep level with the surface of the pond as far as possible, and the amount of water output depends on the area of the pond. Pelteobagrus fulvidraco has the habit of top water, and the main function of flushing is to gather Pelteobagrus fulvidraco together for future domestication. Pelteobagrus fulvidraco generally clustered at the edge of the pond at the seedling stage, so the pump outlet should be as close to the edge of the pond as possible to achieve the best effect of gathering fish.

2. Installation of food farms and bait machines: round or square food farms are set up in places where fish schools are concentrated at the mouth of the pump. Four bamboo poles with a diameter of 3~4cm (each with a length of 3mm and 4m) were connected into a square fence, which was placed in the pool, the position coincided with the feeding area of the bait machine, and then fixed with anchors or piles. The food farm can also be made of PVC tube or 40-mesh mesh cut into narrow bands.

3. Hunger feeding: after two to three hours of flushing, begin to sprinkle an appropriate amount of artificial feed into the food farm by hand, and turn off the water pump before feeding. The feed size should not be too large, usually below 1mm. In the case of no palatable particle size, the feed of large size can also be soaked in appropriate amount of water and crushed.

4. feeding time: after sunset on a sunny day and before sunrise in the morning, feed twice a day for about 30 minutes. The amount of feed depends on the size of the fish, and the feed must be put into the food farm. Generally after 3-5 days of domestication, Pelteobagrus fulvidraco can be seen feeding in the semi-water layer, a week later can appear the phenomenon of Pelteobagrus fulvidraco on the surface of the water, at this time can be used to feed on the bait machine.
