Snakes are real terrestrial vertebrates. At present, there are more than 3000 species of snakes in the world, mainly eating rats (frogs, birds, etc.). Like to live in shade, damp, inaccessible, overgrown with weeds, luxuriant trees, stony piles, firewood piles and ancient ridges and earth walls, and rich in bait. Let's take a look at whether snakes are viviparous or egg-laying.

Is the snake viviparous or oviparous?

Snakes give birth to both eggs and eggs. The snakes of the family Serpidae are all oviparous, while some of the snakes of the python family, the blind snake family and the cobra family are oviparous and some are oviparous. Snakes that usually live in cold areas and high mountains are mostly oviparous, such as snakes. This mode of production allows eggs to stay in the mother's fallopian tube, so that the developed embryos can maintain the required temperature without being affected by the changeable environment of the outside world. Almost all sea snakes are also viviparous.

What does it mean to give birth to an egg?

Oviparity means "hatching eggs in the body", that is, fertilized eggs produced by fertilization in an animal remain in the reproductive tract of the mother, develop into larvae through the yolk of the egg itself, and are not born until the embryo is fully developed. As soon as it matures, the reproductive tract of the mother will contract to expel the larva together with the egg membrane. Therefore, the embryos of oviparous animals are properly protected by the mother, and the hatching survival rate is more secure than that of oviparous animals. In addition to the use of yolk nutrients during the development of fertilized eggs, the exchange of gas and the maintenance of water needed for their development are still dependent on maternal supply.

What are the egg-laying snakes?

1. The five-step snake: the eggs of the five-step snake are mostly laid in the natural cave, the tunnel is shallow, short and dry, the number of eggs varies, the young female snake lays eggs early but the number is small, the old female snake lays eggs late but the number is large, generally 12-18 eggs. Egg white, oblong, egg shell soft, touch like paper. When eggs are laid, they are usually laid in a circle and stick together, usually in 1 to 3 days. The baby snake hatched in about 24 days and was 19 cm long when it came out of its shell.

2. Bungarus bungaroides: Bungarus bungaroides lay eggs. The eggs often begin to sting in the middle of November, and then come out in the first ten days of May of the following year, more than in June, laying 3-12 eggs each time. The incubation period takes 45-56 days. The young snakes mature sexually three years later. Inhabit plains, hills or foothills near water, in the evening or nocturnal activities, often found in fields, roadsides, graveyards and vegetable gardens.

3. Zaocys dhumnades: the female snake lays eggs from July to August, laying 30 eggs each time, and the incubation period is 45-50 days. Female snakes account for 51% of the male and female ratio, fertilized eggs account for 91.4% of the number of eggs laid, natural hatching rate 64.6%, natural survival rate 30%. Live in plains, low mountains or hills, fields, farmhouses are also often seen, and often appear near farmland and farmhouses from late spring to early autumn.

What are the oviparous snakes?

1. Agkistrodon halys: Agkistrodon halys is an egg, and the embryo develops in the body of the female snake. The baby snake can live independently after it is born. Because this way of reproduction can give the snake the best protection, so the survival rate is very high. The breeding period of Agkistrodon halys is from May to September every year, and each female Agkistrodon halys can give birth to 2 to 8 young snakes. The newborn snake is 14-19 cm long and weighs 21-32 grams.

2. Sea snakes: completely aquatic sea snakes are oviparous, giving birth to 3-4 small sea snakes 20-30 cm long at a time. Sea snakes that can come ashore still lay eggs and often flock to fixed islands to lay eggs during the spawning season. Cato Island in the Philippines is one of the islands frequented by sea snakes. People have been hunting snakes commercially on these islands for many years.

3. Snakes: the snakes in front of the snakes are larger and horizontally angular, but the scales at the rear will gradually shrink. The body is barrel-shaped, the tail is short and the end is round, and looks like a wounded head. The whole body is brown. Inhabit deserts and dry areas. The female snake gave birth to 18 cubs nine months later, each more than 62 centimeters in length.
