Distribution of producing area of eel

Eels are mainly distributed in the Yangtze River, Minjiang River, Pearl River Basin, Hainan Island and rivers and lakes in China. Eels live mainly in tropical and temperate waters all over the world, except European eel and American eel in the Atlantic Ocean. The rest are distributed in the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean.

The living habits of eels

1. Environment: eels like to live in clean, pollution-free waters. They are the purest aquatic organisms in the world. They are highly optically active, like running water and warm.

2. Feeding habits: eels mainly feed at night, and adults feed mainly on animal bait. White eels mainly feed on zooplankton, aquatic insects and organic detritus. Young eels weighing about 5 grams begin to prey on fish fry. 100 grams of eels can hunt small fish and shrimps, and the water temperature is above 12 ℃, that is, from March to November, especially from June to July and September to October.

3. Sex: the sex of eels is determined by the acquired environment. When the population number is small, the proportion of females will increase, while the population number will decrease, and the overall proportion is conducive to the increase of the population.

4. Reproduction: eels grow in rivers on land, migrate to the sea to lay eggs after maturity, lay eggs only once in their lifetime, and die after spawning. This way of life is contrary to the river migration of salmon, which is called downriver migration.

The growth process of eel

1. Egg stage: the eel egg stage is located in the deep sea spawning site.

2. Leaf eel: drifting long distance with the ocean current in the ocean, when the body is flat and transparent, as thin as willow leaves, it is easy to drift with the current.

3. Glass eel: when approaching coastal waters, the body becomes streamlined, reducing resistance to break away from strong ocean currents.

4. Eel line: when entering the estuarine waters, melanin begins to appear, but it also forms the catch source of eel seedlings in aquaculture.

5. Yellow eel: during the growth of the river, the belly of the fish appears yellow.

6. Silver eel: at maturity, the fish changes to silvery white similar to deep-sea fish, with larger eyes and wider pectoral fins to adapt to swimming back to the deep sea to spawn.
